This is a photo taken today (6-22-2012) in southern California. Please help identify this in case it is a pest egg sac. There are dozens of them on the plants in my backyard.
I was hoping they were mantis egg sacs, but it is the wrong time of year.

Might be spittlebugs.
This does look like the froth made by spittlebugs. If it is, then what you are seeing is not an egg sac but the byproduct of this insect's feeding method. If you are able to wipe/blow away the bubbly froth and find an insect underneath, you have spittlebugs. Nothing to worry about, just a neat story:
