Need help with leaf problem on my Cottonwoods

Hi there, I was wondering if anyone has any ideas of what could be happening to my cottonwood trees? Some of them are not growing, the leaves are really small and sparse, there are very few on them. They did great last year, were full and lush. I would sure appreciate any help you might be able to give me. I dont have any photo's of them as of now but can get some if I need to.
