I've seen other DG members talk about Logee's, so I had to take a look for myself. I found the perfect gift for my mom's birthday, and of course, a little something for myself. I'm curious if anyone has a discount code they aren't using that they would be willing to share. Thank you!!
Logee's purchase
Coupon codes located here. It's says there are 4 available. I hope they are good.

Thanks Green Thumb! I actually googled those last night. I thought the new5 one would work, but it doesn't. :( I was hoping someone else had one that is more current. Otherwise, I may try calling in my order to see if they would take it that way.
Well that stinks.. Good Luck with your purchase.
Jaime, don't be misled by the beautiful pictures on Logee's site. I've had a bad experience with Logee's. They send very small plants for the top dollar they charge.
My gifts from my kids this winter were two kinds of Phaius orchids. Logee's site said they would be "blooming size plants" and my kids paid something like $25 each for them. When they arrived they were two very tiny starts nowhere near blooming size. By the time they bloom so I can see if they really are what was ordered, it will be too late to send them back. Maybe next spring, more likely 2014.
I protested, sent these pics to Logee's and got no response. Yes, they have a great selection of unusual stuff. But I really feel they charge too much and the value is not there.
In the first pic is the tiny start my kids bought from Logee's, and behind, a plant of same variety I got for $10 less at a local grower, that bloomed for nearly 2 months this spring. Ditto on the second, the little guy is the Logee's plant, (I repotted it into the clay pot) the other I got at the local Orchid Society show. Both same variety, $25 from Logee's, $12 for the other. The grower said even his big plant would not bloom until next spring!
Look around, I'll bet you can find better value for less money. Try Florida Hill Nurseries www.floridahillnursery.com or Tropiflora www.tropiflora.com if you're after tropicals.

I agree with Elaine, I have also ordered from Logees several times and the plants are always in a two inch cell and only about 3-5 in. tall. The last 2 or 3 thimes I have ordered the plants have died. The first time I emailed them and they sent replacements, but only one of those survived. The second time, one died about a week later and the other about two weeks later. I'm not ordering from them any more unless it is something I HAVE to have and I can't find it anywhere.
What is it you are looking for...maybe some of us here have it??
Oh no! Unfortunately I made my purchase before I read these comments. I saw the negative reviews on GW, but was hoping maybe *my* purchase would be different, lol. My mom has a fascination with the strange and unusual, so I ordered her a set of the Lithops (living stones they call them) and a split rock. I also couldn't resist getting myself a little something since I already had to pay for shipping. I bought myself the 4" Ponderosa lemon plant. I couldn't resist the history of them, knowing it was a cutting from a tree from 1900. I hope I am pleasantly surprised, but I'm not holding my breath. Thanks for your input, I'll come back and let you know how it turns out.
I've always had good luck with them and they've got mostly positive reviews here so I think there's a good chance everything will be fine (unless something's changed with them recently--it's probably been a year since I ordered anything from them)
Thanks ecrane, I'm hoping it turns out great and I want to order from them again.
Also, if anyone wants to know, the coupon code new5 is valid, but you have to phone in your order.
I have ordered from them over the years and actually went there once when I happened to be in Connecticut. I have repeatedly mentioned how small their plants are but I thought the quality was great. I have no complaints there. When I did run into what I considered a quality issue I called and spoke with the owner himself who was very gracious about refunding my money. I have used them for plants that were not available elsewhere. They frequently send me surveys about their plants, etc. and I always mention the plants are too small and the shipping costs are too high. Tony Avant from Plant Delights Nursery always talks about the costs involved in shipping and why he charges so much. I think he and others like Logees, that offer the unusual, know they have a unique product and can take advantage.
I think the bottom line is you should never order something from them that you can get elsewhere for less $. Incidentally, I am an antique myself and I remember my parents ordering plants from Logees when I was a young child. They have been around for a very long while and the same family still owns them.
Other places where I have had good results include Zone 9 tropicals, Almost Eden, Yucca Do and Tropiflora.
Good to hear your take, as always Alice. I agree, you should always shop around and only order from Logee's as a last resort.
My plants from Logee's were healthy and have survived. I wouldn't have been so disappointed if they hadn't misrepresented the size of the plants by saying they were "blooming size" when they are at least a year, maybe two years' growth away from blooming. To me that is unconscionable especially considering the prices.
That is disappointing and I would be upset also. I wonder if whomever pulled the plants got the plant size mixed up and shipped the wrong one. It has been fairly new for Logees but they now offer many plants in different sized pots. It is hard to tell on the website because they use the identical photo for each.
Also, a plant may bloom very early for them in their GH's; they are growing in the most ideal conditions, even better than nature in some cases. Their set up provides perfect sunlight, moisture and nutrition, all automatically - 24/7.
Both the little Phaius I got had Logee's tags with the plant name and the price - $24.95 - on them. Phaius have leaves that are nearly 2ft. long when they're blooming size - you can see in the pics above. The biggest leaf on those little starts was maybe 7in. Here's the page for one of the two I got, in two places it says the plants they ship are "blooming size" and there's only one size offered.

(grumble, grumble) I guess I would have been mollified a bit if I had at least received a response from them. Their silence speaks volumes to me.
My experience has also been very good..I have ordered several things from them over the years.. I just recieved a new Passiflora from them 2 weeks ago and it is great and very nice size..

I received my order yesterday, which was a day sooner than I anticipated. My lithops were very small, but I should have expected such when the website plainly states that they are shipped in a 2.5" pot. The picture on the website does show a pot of 3, and I received 4. They are all different colors so, overall, I was very pleased with them. The Ponderosa Lemon did leave a little to be desired in terms of size. It is a rooted cutting, probably about 14" tall, but is a single stem with no "branches" yet. At $18.95, I feel like I should have gotten one that had at least started to fill out some. Luckily I was able to use the $5 off coupon, so that made things a little better in my mind. Everything was expertly packed and arrived totally safe, despite our 95 degree heat here. Overall, I'm pretty pleased with my purchase and I will keep them in mind for future orders.
Glad that the lithiops are a satisfaction for you, Jaime. I was curious so went looking for them, and found this site with a collection of 10 adult plants for $30. Just in case your Mom wants to continue collecting, this looks like a better value to me.

Sorry, but a 14" rooted cutting of your lemon is not worth $18.95 plus shipping. The picture on their site has a nice branched little tree with a lot of big leaves and a lemon, right? Safe to say it will be years before you see a lemon on that plant, if ever. I sure hope it survives for you. Don't forget they'll only refund within 30 days. btw, they charge $4.95 for their catalog, too.
You were awfully generous with your review, too. I'd have thought from your description above that it rated a "Neutral" at best.
I know, still sucking at the sour grapes here . . . Elaine
Elaine, I can't help but giggle at your last comment. I'm sorry that you've had such a bad experience with them. I know what it's like to be completely turned off by one shopping experience. Overall, I am happy with my purchase, but maybe it's just because those Lithops are so darned cute and I have notions of grandeur as far as growing my lemon twig into a glorious tree, lol. Maybe I will feel differently in 6 months, who knows. I will say that when I got my first citrus trees earlier this year, I was far less pleased with those purchases. Here's my little story and review on those: www.davesgarden.com/products/gwd/c/3298/
I did end up changing my review back to positive though because the trees that they did sell me have gotten visibly stronger and bigger since being in my care. They really do seem to be very healthy plants, and this makes me happy, not necessarily the customer service I received. Even though I was pretty upset with my second purchase, I would still buy from them again because the quality of their plants is good, even if they aren't the largest or evenly branched trees out there. Just my novice 2 cents.
And thanks for the Lithops link! I am giving my mom her gift tomorrow night. I'm sure she's going to love them and I'll bet she will want to add to them, so I will pass this along. Shoot, I may need a few for myself. :)
All their ponderosa lemon trees come from one huge and ancient gnarled tree in their greenhouse. You can see where they have taken thousands of cuttings over the years.
Jaime, a large part of my disappointment is because Logee's do offer such a great variety of plants, and they sometimes have kinds that nobody else has. Now, I won't order from them, no matter what. Plus the people they ripped off were my kids, not me, and none of them have any money to waste.
Never in a million years would anybody pay $25 for the tiny plants they sent, if you saw them at a nursery. Worse yet, they promised me "blooming size" and they're not. That's fraudulent advertising.
Nobody would pay $19 for your little lemon cutting at a nursery, either. A nice bushy lemon 18in. high from Home Depot here is $10 and a 3ft. transplant that looks like a tree is $20. The variegated ones with the pink lemons are a bit more, maybe $13.95. But because Logee's show beautiful pictures of something a lot bigger and better than what you get, people shell out their hard-earned cash.
So giving a positive review of a company you really aren't pleased with leads other customers to buy from them, and possibly get ripped like I/we did.
I looked at your other review of your citrus trees, my goodness! Did you look at the other reviews below yours? Holy cow, I'd have never, ever ordered anything from a company with more negative than positive reviews. That's the whole purpose of the Garden Watchdog, to help other people get good value for their money.
Glad it turned out ok for you, but I think you're being too forgiving and possibly sending other people the wrong message.
I'm with Elaine on Logee's. I guess living down south we are a bit spoiled with so many plants available to us. I bought a Ponderosa lemon a couple of months ago for $25. BUT it was 4-5 ft tall and had several lemons on it. One is already the size of a small orange. I like Logees because they offer things you can hardly find elsewhere, but the size and prices are what I have problems with.
Before you order from them, check Almost Eden and Peppers greenhouse, they have a lot of the same thing and sometimes about half the price and twice the size plant. Almost Eden send large plants.
And I think the shipping charges are less expensive at almost eden.
