CLOSED: beetle/bug id with no picture

i just saw this bug/beetle a few minutes ago and couldn't catch it but i'll keep trying. it's on a Brunfelsia at the moment and hopefully will stay there.
it's red, about the size of a ladybug with black legs and one black spot in the middle of its back. it looks very much like a ladybug in all respects but the body is slightly elongated compared to the round form of a ladybug.

it is not in the larvae or nymph stage.

i just found it and dropped it into a bowl with alcohol. yuck and dang, i think it's some kind of weevil...like i don't have enough of those already.

first picture is the top
second is the underside
third is kind of sideways

Not a weevil; it looks like a nymph of a Florida predatory stink bug - http://entnemdept.ufl.edu/creatures/beneficial/e_floridanus.htm

oh man, i killed a good guy......i'm upset with myself but i'm happy to learn and to leave the next one i find to do its business...and i'm really relieved that it's not another species of weevil.
thanks so much, flap.

i believe it was a 4th instar and one of the prey is the root weevil......i could just kick myself.

I think a lot of us can kick ourselves, too, for killing a good bug. I know I've killed lots of stuff I shouldn't have and let live what I shouldn't've.(Wow...I hope that last sentence made sense.)

update: i just found another one crawling up a trash can. i was able to transfer him unharmed to the same plant where my evil deed took place yesterday.
in the process, i found an all red bug, stink or shield i suppose, and very large. will post a blurry pic on a new thread.
