CLOSED: Is it in the fly family?

Woodward, OK(Zone 6b)

I live in NW Okla and have seen these several times, but have been unable to identify what it is and if it's beneficial or harmful.
It looks like part fly and part something else.
I hope someone can help.

Thank you.

It's about one half to an inch long and bigger than a mosquito.

It's a robber fly in the family Asilidae - predaceous on other insects - http://www.cirrusimage.com/Flies_robber.htm

Thank you Flapdoodle for the ID. That's my bug. :-)
