My Firewitch Dianthus has gone through its first bloom stage and I have cut and harvested the dried seed from the bloom stocks. Can I go ahead a plant the seeds right now and have them grow out before fall sets in, or do they need a resting period before planting?
By the way this is one of my favorite plants for edging my garden beds.
Thanks for your help,
Debbie
Freshly Harvested Dianthus Seed
The Deno database got the same results for fresh and older seeds.
I'd go ahead and seed them if it is not too hot there.
He used 70º F as the germination temperature.
Thanks for your reply...I was beginning to wonder if anyone knew what to do.
I'll give it a shot.
Hi Debbie, I've grown them both ways with the same results, I recently grew some dianthus crimsoniana from seed I had saved from 2010 so they do keep well if you have too many to sow now.
Thanks, I just put them in the ground today. I sowed them in a row in my garden, and I'll see how they do.
