CLOSED: What kid of spider is this?

My girlfriend found this outside her apartment and (like an idiot) she captured it in a bowl without knowing what it is. Can someone identify it please? It's about the size of a quarter, plus the legs. Found in Caseyville, IL (about 15 minutes from St. Louis, MO).

EDIT: Sorry, I realize this is a website for people with garden's. I found the identification forum through google and didn't realize that until the signup asked me "where do you garden?" Hope I'm not intruding.
