CLOSED: Spider found in garage

Short Pump, VA

Hi there. I was rather curious about this spider I came across on my way in through the garage today. I have severe arachnophobia but managed to get a quick picture before It took off and I went upstairs to cry myself to sleep. ( kidding )

The picture is a little bit blurry, I apologize, but I will tell you what I can about it.

It was rather large. Between 1.5" to 2" ( closer to 2 )

The body was solid black and as you can tell in the picture it was hairless and very shiny ( also pure evil and out to murder me ). The legs were a little lighter colored and appear to have little black lines/spots intermittent down the length of it. Most of it can be noticed in the picture but adding this information just to be clear.

I live in central Virginia.

I'm just a little curious as this was quite large and the first I've seen here. My little nephew sometimes tags along with me when I'm out in the garage or yard and I just want to make sure this isn't a species to worry about. I'm familiar with most garden and house spiders but this one is new to me.

( cute!)
Seriously, that would scare me too. THat is NOT something I have seen before.
Do you live near the water?

Minot, ND

Could be either a wolf or fishing spider; neither is dangerous.

I actually do live by a little creek. It's about 20 yards from the house. Fishing spider seems pretty close in look but haven't quite found a picture of one that hairless and solid colored yet. Gonna look around a bit more but fishing spider seems like it might be it.
