Antique Frame

-South Central-, IL(Zone 6a)

Today I got an antique frame, like pics of our great grandparents are in. It has rounded corners on the bottom, the top is totally rounded, and it has curved glass.

Now I don't know anything about this, but I think it might be valuable, and I'm wondering if someone can ballpark a $$ for me.

Also, what am I going to do with it? The person in it looks pretty creepy, and the picture has no value to me... does it?

What are people doing these days with those old, old, frames?

Thanks for your input on this. I know I'm at the best place to get the best advice.

It sounds like it's pretty.

FlowrLady - do the "eyes" of the lady in the picture follow you? There was a technique in the "old days" where it looked like they did - tres creepy!!
My grandparents (I never met them - they passed long before I was born) had separate pictures done, and their eyes followed you as you walked around the room. I loved those pictures though, cuz they're family.
They were large oval pictures, with curved frames, and sort of a stripe-y wood varnished very heavily..... Maybe it was tiger wood......... looked expensive!

tres creepy, Tallulah, they DO follow me. :)

If it's 'Tiger' wood, it's automatically more expensive! LOL

Well, then it's because the people in the picture are looking straight ahead, at the artist. Generally, in olden times that's exactly what people did - didn't look very natural, but there you have it. They were supposed to hold their positions to be painted, or photographed.
Try it yourself - take a photograph of someone who's looking directly at you, and when you view the picture, the eyes will follow you wherever you go - sorta like a 3D image........ because that's the way our eyes view it.
