Perhaps it is caused by the fairly mild winter we had in Massachusetts or some other factor, but I am seeing an abundent amount of butterflys this spring. Spending a goodly amount of time in the gardens this year I am seeing more and differant butterflys then I have ever seen before.
So far we have seen American Coppers and Red Admirals in good numbers and also a couple of Morning Cloaks.
Has anyone else noticed a populace of butterflys?
Chuck
PS: Although I wish I took these pictures, I didn't

Abundent Butterflys
CT is full of butterflies! One day on a bird walk, I saw more butterflies than birds! My screened in porch was full of Red Admirals the other day.....
American Painted Ladies, Vanessa virginiensis -- about eight of them for every Red Admiral (Vanessa atalanta) -- and possibly one or two worldwide Painted Ladies, V. cardui. V. virginiensis almost always has a white spot in one of the orange segments near the apex of each forewing; V. cardui never does. They were wild about my wallflowers, espectially the big "Sweet Sorbet".
Wish I knew more about them.....very pretty creatures....
