May 2012 Blooms

They do spread by underground runners. :) They look great though, so you should expand the bed to include them.

Mine never come back, they are all seedling volunteers.

I have 2 different varieties of Rudbeckia. One spreads by runners and the other by reseeding.

hirta is the native species and mine are always by seed

No need to apologize on my account. I was kind of guessing even though I have a few gaillardias around. I'm fairly new to Texas and that could have been some other gaillardia-like wildflower.

I have some NOIDs blooming right now myself.

I got this Salvia several years ago from Bluestone. It has reseeded itself around this bed and given up on it's original spot. I just can't remember what it is even though I love the coloring. The next is a NOID daylily.

Then this is the first bloom from my new canna Thai Rainbow. I think I like it! The next is daylily Milk Chocolate w/Salvia May Night underneath. I know Milk Chocolate is an oldie but I just really like it.

And, finally, can't post without a rose. This one is Agatha Christie.

This past week has just been so beautiful outside. Can't wait for the coming three day weekend!

Esperanza is starting to bloom. It'll bloom until frost.

Rock Rose is so bright and pretty!

This beauty was sunning on my Turk's Cap. No idea what it is, but it enjoyed basking in the sun.

What conditions is your rock rose growing in? Mine in full sun were covered with mildew and not an acceptable amount. I have one that popped up last year that is in part shade and now its looking like its infected with a virus (light patches on the leaves). It bloomed ok in part shade last year and no real mildew issues so I left it there.

This one is growing in part shade. It likes dry conditions, so don't overwater. I probably water about once a week. I water other parts of that bed every 3-4 days, but try not to water near it. I had one growing in full sun and it went crazy! I do think they are susceptible to mildew if overwatered. I really neglect this one and it seems to flourish. I also cut them back in Jan or Feb.

Now this will sound odd but I keep reading that this type of mildew is worse in dryer conditions?

I can only go by my own experience. It's been very drought tolerant for me and not suffered from lack of blooming.

WASPS!! omg Stephanie we have enough wasps nest already! Bring em on! I am ready for them! lol

Yea, I keep wondering how that dry mildew thing works. It has something to do with producing spores. I guess I just need to find a good spot for one because they are so pretty.

The yellow shrimp plant that I transplanted earlier in the spring has started blooming. Hooray!!

The catnip is starting to flower and will soon go to seed.

The rock rose is LOVING this heat. The leaves have drooped due to the high temps which means it probably needs some water this evening. The flowers don't care, though. They just keep on blooming and looking lovely.

This lantana (that I didn't know I had) has started to bloom. It's a very pretty color and is very striking in the garden.

NOID yellow daylily. It gets abused every summer, but still flourishes.

Passiflora foetida (Maypop) popping at the end of May.
