Thanks, Stephanie.
Other questions I have: What color are the LA Walking Iris, the hyacinth bean vines, floss flowr, and snow drops? Duh, I guess the SNOW Drops are white, but I couldn't find it on the plant files, so could you tell me all about it?
N Centra TX RUWhat is this Plant??
Spiderwort, from Smockette.
Sybil, here's the link for info on Willowleaf Aster. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/139160/ Basically, full sun, blooms in the late summer/fall, spreads by underground runners, gets about 2' tall
I think this is the firespike: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1854/
Cheryl, there was a plastic container with my name and Sheila's on it with the CP and tahoka daisy. I took one of each and Josephine and I thought the rest must be for Sheila.
Oh, that is where they came from...LOL! Got me in trouble...LOL!
This might help someone on the id of plants. It is the post with links to the trade lists.

I really hated to miss the RU, but it was on the one spring week-end I could not come. I do have a suggestion. I buy bright colored acrylic paint pens on the cheap at Walmart and write the plant's name on the pot. I still have a few NOID's in the greenhouse from last fall's swap. The paint pens are very quick, easy, and inexpensive. Plus they write on everything!

I know that PI is Philippine Islands and I assume LA is Los Angeles.
LOL! LA is for Lower Alabama...no LOL! not really! It is Louisiana Iris. Maybe whoever gave it can tell you the color, but they are tall and usually beautiful colors.
Patricia...we are sorry you missed it too! I think it was the best weather we have had in a while. As for the markers, I have had a lot of pots from you over the years and always had names, you are right! Oh and take pics of those strays maybe someone will recognize them.

That's one of the reasons why I like to use plastic SOLO cups and yogurt containers. You can write directly on them with a Sharpie!
Lower Alabama, yeah right. I'll look that one right up. Sheila, you're a mess (and messin' w/me).
Thank you all so much for taking the time to help me. I think I'm about OK, but I did find a black, 6 inch square plastic pot that had dirt in it. I thought it was just dirt, so poured it out. Surprise! A nice tuber. Could anyone remember what it is?
Sybil, Live Oaks in the white bag, Mexican Petunia (Reullia) beside them.
Could it be an EE?
Thanks, Trishann.
No, Joy, it's not an EE. I have those and would recognize that. It looks more like a canna, but.....I don't know, not sure.
Someone had cannas.
Ok hyacinth bean vine- lablab purpurea or Jacobs Bean most of the seeds Goin aroun are the Ruby Moon var. Louisiana Walkin Irises are USUALLy dark purple- could be var Gamecock, but there are yellow and white ones as well, That doesn't look like a noid canna that I know of, but not up to date on the newer var
Syb, did someone name the mother-in-law tongue? It is the 2nd photo in your post that says, "a couple more" The floss flowers are from me and they are sky blue, get about 2 feet tall but usually flop over and act like chrysanthemums. There is some name confusion around snow drops, snow bells, etc. I dont know which you have. One is more common to the South and the other more common further North. Hyacinth Bean vine has pink flowers, beautiful shiny purple seed pods and can climb at least to the top of a two story house. I have mine growing on a pergola but one year I had it on a fence near the house and it climbed the electric box and conduit up to the top of the house. The 6" square pot black contains a canna but ask who brought cannas and they can prob tell you what color they brought.

Wow, you guys are great! About the hyacinth beans--Josephine gave me some last year, and I have them planted around three hitching posts on the south side of the house. If y'all noticed them at all, you probably didn't think about them being hitching posts. They're close to the flag pole. Anyway, someone left me a bunch more, so I'm trying to figure out where to put them, but didn't know if they'd all be the same color. One idea I had was to let them climb up a tree. There's a lot of skinny, tall oak trees down by my pot place, and on some of them the limbs don't start until pretty high up. It gets filtered sun down there. Would it hurt the trees?
I had tons of cannas, Stephanie, but maybe someone else did, too.
Thanks, Steadycam, I've looked them up now.
I've been reading about the lasagna gardening, and I'm a little confused. Some people say let your manure compost, but others say you can plant in it right away when you layer it with the other stuff. Have any of you tried this?
You have to let your bed "cook" so the it won't be too hot and burn your plants, but if you want experiment you could plant a small area and see what happens.
Has everyone gotten their plants identified yet? How about you Trish....do you know yet what this was? http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=9105741
Trishann, you were supposed to receive several types of basil from Kate. I dont know what some of them look like but this plant looks like something grown from seed under lights as Kate would have grown them. See if your plants match her list. Just an idea.
No Sheila, no one has id's it yet... Still hoping someone will let me know what it is so I can take good care of it....
It isn't a basil......
Did anyone give you a crossvine?
Nope, not my basil. They were all marked on the pots.
Trishann I think what you have is a Firebush check this;
http://www.floridata.com/ref/h/hame_pat.cfm
Oooo...someone had Firespike, but those leaves don't look like the images of Firespike that I've seen online. http://www.floridata.com/ref/o/odon_str.cfm
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1854/
Well they are young leaves, and I could be wrong too, it was a good guess, it could also be Poke Weed.
Reading over your shoulders and wanted to say Stephanies' firespike ( Odontonema strictum ) and Josephines' firebush ( Hamelia patens ) are two different plants. I have both and the leaves are definitely different as are the blooms.
And, if I can add, I'm not sure Trishanns' photo is either one. Hope you don't mind my input ~ Kristi

Im the one who brought Firespike to the RU and Im pretty familiar with what it looks like even when young and I dont think it is firespike. I can speak to Hamela patens, however.
Hi Pod...don't mind the eavesdropping at all...good to see you even in posts!
Trish...Guess you will have to post "as it grows" pictures on here until you find out what it is..LOL!
Yes, this is turning out to be quite a mystery, it will be fun to find out what it is.
Josephine.
Hi Sheila ~ yes, I also hope Trishann will keep posting on this plant. It is interesting and agree with Josephine, it is a mystery.
Steadycam ~ what color is your firespike? They are a pretty plant and have such long lasting blooms. At least till the hummers destroy the blooms. lol Kristi
Kristi, the blooms are red. I dont have the pink one.
Hmmm... I've never seen the pink one. I have a red and a purple one. Had a purple for a few years and it bloomed for the first time this year. Needless to say I was excited. lol
I chose red because the hummers love red and they have not disappointed. It blooms at the time they come thru here on their migration.

So glad you could come, Baja. I'm sorry I never got around to really visiting with you (as well as others). Comes with hosting territory, I guess. Seems there is just always one more thing to check on, etc. I had a blast, too, and look forward to "next time." syb
Can anyone tell me what this is? It is in a very thin square container. I was sure I got it from Josephine but she doesn't recognize it. What is it?
Cheryl
