We had a greattttttt time. We met nice people, sat under the trees, watched the animals and birds, ate good food, and brought home some nice plants!
It was nice to meet everyone and thanks for the plants!
A huge thanks to Joy for hosting the meet up and for sharing her beautiful place with us. We came home with some serious goat and lamb envy.
Thanks again.
Central Tx RU - April 14th
Much agreed!
Joy, thank you so much for hosting a fantastic get-together. It was great to meet everyone and put names to faces! Plus, it was great to talk to fellow gardeners who really appreciate plant life. :)
I vote for a fall RU if Joy still wants to host! The next Wildflower Center plant sale is October 12-14 so.... :)
I was so glad to have everyone there. I must say that the food was terrific. I vote for Gymgirl's greens at our next one!
It was so nice to put faces with names and to learn about different plants. Fortunately, the weather stayed mild and other than the wind, it was quite pleasant. The lambs and baby goaties were a big hit, it is always fun with young animals. My dogs slept well last night after chasing balls and sticks most of the afternoon.
I have no problem hosting another one, y'all were a great group!
Joy
Dang, I just wrote a note and posted 5 pictures, hit "preview" and have NO IDEA (NOID) where that post went. I'll wait a little while and post again if it doesn't magically show up! Janet
So, I try again.
THANK YOU JOY AND DAVE!!!!
Mark and I had such a great time We really enjoyed seeing all the critters, especially the "free roaming" peacock! thought the weather was perfect. The wind just blew the bugs away! Joy, don't forget to let us know what that beautiful striped plant is--I definitely want one! It was so great to meet some of my DG friends in person. You all are the best! And now I can add my voice to the rest--Lillie Mae's Greens are TOO GOOD! Gymgirl, you know how to cook dem greens! And your five little girls were beautiful and so well behaved.
Thanks for the goodies I came away with. I've already planted my "elephant ear" and know where the redbud is going too. I'm already thinking about starting some new cuttings for our FALL RU!! Can't wait! Janet
I am so glad you guys got together, I knew that once you did it you would love it, Dave's people are the best, maybe I will make it next time.
Josephine.
Oh, man, Russell is the man!! I told Mark on the way home, if we ever live in the country, I'd definitely have a peacock!! Thanks again, Joy. And maybe we'll make a caravan up to your RU, Josephine! One of these days... Janet
I hope so, that would be fun.
Joy, Thank you for inviting us to your farm. I enjoyed everything: the RU itself, the great food, all the animals and birds, watching Crush work, the wonderful live oak shade, your wonderful chevre, meeting everyone. You were an awesome, generous hostess and I hope you know how much we appreciate having an RU in our area. On the way to your place, on 290 there are roadsides and fields of prickly poppy and Carol and I stopped on our way home for me to liberate one to take home and save seed. It was just a lovely day! Marty
Joy,
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
You made FIVE little girls (and the three BIG girls) very happy! You are a most gracious hostess, and your place is wonderful. It is a beautiful thing you do with the Roux Crew, and fantastic to see them in motion, doing what they were trained to do.
Thank you for sharing your home, your stories, and your animals with us, and for sharing us with each other! So nice to put more faces to the names. It only took me a minute after I got home to realize that my lovely little placeholder was actually a peel and stick name tag!!!! DUH! Well, no matter, we all figured out who we were! LOL!!!
And tell Holly Hunter (Careyana) I look forward to seeing her again in the fall and to bring the rest of her crew that was sick this go 'round! The accent was a total delight. I just sat there listening to her all evening!
Would love to come again for a fall RU. I'll bring Lilly Mae's Greens since they went over so well. I loved that lasagna and all the dishes, and the homemade cheeses were awesome. Tell whoever made the individual cream cheese clouds (in the little Rubbermaid containers) to put that on the Fall RU menu again! (Cheeky!!)
Hugs!
Linda

Ok, trade ya cheesecake "clouds" for LM Greens! It was moi! And I did the same thing as you--figured out I had a name tag on my cute hostess gift once I got home! Joy was SO SWEET to make those for us.
I'm thinking we shouldn't wait for Fall to get together again. Maybe after all the renovations to the ol' homestead are done, I'll have a swim party for any Dgers that can come. Plants do not have to be involved but definitely food and water play, music and FUN! Anyone game?? Janet
I'm in for a penny!!! Sounds fun
Joy
I don't go near any water I can't swim in. And, I can't fit into any of my swimsuits right now!!! AaArrrrgggghhhhh!!!
Nope. No more cheesecake clouds for me, until I fit!
sniff...
Janet, I think you should send that photo to coke with the caption, "reduce, reuse, recycle."
Oh, and if you are the one that got the "mystery" cuttings from careyana, they are rose pavonia.

Linda, well, if you like to listen, I like to talk! HA! Of course, if you make those tasty greens, there may not be any talking!
Janet, that sounds like a great time...and yes, I think we'd all love those cheesecake containers again!
Marty, if it hadn't been getting dark on my drive back to Austin I probably would've been digging too. Of course, I found some lovely new wildflowers in the green belt today, and MY CHOCOLATE DAISIES CAME BACK! They just took their sweet time blooming. :)
Carey, I saw several other wild flowers in that field but my neighbor waiting in the car was certain I was about to be shot so I hurried. I did not know what the flowers were and at a distance, they could have been something I had seen or had not. When I plucked it, I did not know what it was. I had to come home and google. It had some seed pods and two flower buds. One opened today so Ive been pollinating hoping to get viable seed if the pods on it dont give me seed. Those are some awesome blooms. Im not crazy about the thistley foliage but hey, redeeming qualities, right?
Those white poppies are gorgeous! Since they get so tall they hover over everything, even the bastard cabbage!
Do you know whether TXDOT scattered the seeds or are they just native to that area?
Ya'll are hilarious! I can't wait to get together again. If it's gonna be in the fall, we'll have a good amount of lead time to announce the RU, so people can get the date on their calendars.
The first RU I attended at Randy Harrison's here in the Heights was held in the fall. Much haggling over a good date, but we went with the 1st or 2nd weekend in October, and over 60 people showed up!
What a gang!
The weather was cool and gorgeous. Sooooooooooooo, I'm just saying.......
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!
There were almost as many people posing with those prickly poppy plants and there were plants. They are beautiful. Interesting reading on the net about them.
Gymgirl, I missed your greens! Did you see Randy's post about moving to Chicago. I was too sick to come last weekend. So disappointed. It sounded like such fun. We're both still hacking/
I remember that RU at Randy's. I filled the back of DH's truck with plants to take....in a terrible rainstorm. I also carried a plastic bag of pond water and mosquito fish there for Randy. We got to Houston and the sky cleared. We had such a great time. I went home with at least as many plants as I brought, including two sago babies from you!. I believe DH thought we were all crazy. I had no idea what a RU was, or what to expect. We parked the truck, opened the back end, and people just swarmed. We wound up spending the night in Houston, so we had to haul plants up the stairs to our room. I wouldn't think of leaving them in the truck overnight. DH said never again....but he's gone to a couple since then. Good memories.
Sandy,
I missed YOU! Smockette calculates it's been 6-7 years since Randy's RU, and I couldn't believe how the time has flown! We've all come a LONG way since then!
The greens I brought were probably the best I've ever done. I had a bowl last night and had to stop chewing to just savor how good they really were! It was a complete fluke, too, since I had to cook them on the fly, and, at someone else's house the night before. But, Lilly Mae's recipe is practically fool proof, so no matter.
I got a wee stem of a Yellow Esperanza from Steadycam3, and I'll be babying it for the next year! I am soooooooooo excited. I've got to learn how to take stem cuttings and root them. Anybody willing to teach me, I'm all ears!
Looking forward to a fall gathering!
Hugs!
Linda
That sounds wonderful Gymgirl, your mother was a smart woman.
Thank you Frostweed! She was a very smart woman.
Gymgirl, Just dont let the new seedling get too dry and fertilize with blue water (miracle-gro or similar) every 2 weeks. When you can see roots thru the drain holes in the pot, either uppot or place in the ground. By fall you should have a 4 foot tall shrub and if we dont have a hard winter, you will have 6-8 feet the following year. That stick has been rooting since February of this year so it has been busy making roots, not leaves. No hot sun for it yet just part shade.
Steadycam3,
I'm babying that little seedling! It's inside under a light. Keeping it moist, but not wet. Will fertilize lightly with the MG.
I'm so excited about the prospect of those BIG, YELLOW flowers!
OMG, I wish I was there! I would have got a chance to play with the Goats and see a real Peacock! I will definitely try to make it next time if I have to spend the weekend in Houston.
Sylvia
Let me know Sylvia, we have a small bunkhouse that we are redoing in our spare time, gg, and you are welcome to stay there overnight.
Joy
Thank you, Joy!
I'm so unhappy that I missed it...so much fun and entertainment!
Is anyone going to the Mercer swap next week? or the Galveston county one?
I'm hoping I can attend one of them.
Betsy
OK peeps, the plant everyone was wanting a name on is Variegated Jacobs Ladder, a tuberous, shade loving plant that mounds up to 2', has these lovely bell shaped blue flowers, and sadly is needful of water. But it is pretty enough for me to forgive it that.
Joy
Thanks, Joy. It is a beautiful plant.
MUST ACQUIRE... :) I was thinking, what is it about this plant that is SO attractive? I think I just love how vivid it looks. And the form is beautiful. I shall see if anyone sells it on DG, and if not, I'll google. The world, at our fingertips!
