I bought this farm in November, and now that Spring is here, there are these very gross black wasps all over everywhere. I think they live in the eaves or something, and while I know most people say wasps are harmless, I can't have them on my property. My mother is allergic and spends the entire time in fear and one of my dogs even got stung. I bought several different kinds of traps from amazon and not a single wasp has gone in it. I also tried making a trap from a soda bottle, apple juice, rotten meat, everything. Nothing is working, Can someone please identify the species of this wasp and tell me how I can trap them and get rid of them.
Help me figure out this nasty wasp!!!!
Paper wasp of some type.
Have you tried a trap like this?

I have one on my porch, and it has had great success in capturing them.
Of course, the best removal method, is to find their nests, and spray them.
I figured it was a paper wasp. None of the traps have been working, not even the one you posted above. I'd really love to figure out how to stop them. Can't seem to find any nests
That's odd. Looking back at your first post, they definitely do live in the eaves of houses. Last year we took that sprayable foam and filled up all the holes we could, and took down any nests we could find. Don't know if you're able to get into those areas or not, but when it gets cold again, you may want to see if you cant have a look. (Cold enough for them to be inactive/dead).
From Audubon: "adults drink nectar, and juices from rotting fruits"
I don't know, try putting some actual fruit in the trap? The apple juice worked great for me, but maybe try something stronger, or a concentrate?
Also, my trap is in a sunny spot.

I have all the traps in sunny spots. Have tried meat, and everything, never tried rotting fruit. The problem with the house is that it's all really old wooden shingle so they could be living anywhere. I am at my wits end and don't know what else to do. I will try the fruit.
i wouldn't think a wasp would be attracted to rotting meat but fruit, yes.
rotting meat, cat food etc, is generally used for yellow jackets.
