What's happening in your neck of the woods? Spring 2012

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Well, unpacking in the dark has its pitfalls... I have a box with plants from Holly that belongs to Terri (Aspenhill), and she has a bag for me with a couple of plants from Happy! So we get to meet up for a post-swap swap. :-)

Somehow I think you planned for that to happen. Heehee. Hooray for another swap, even if it's just between you two.

Catbird and I were in the dark too. But we couldn't tear ourselves away any earlier.

Qwilter, that was nice you could rescue some things. Hope they do well. Yeah the AM area should be a madhouse from now till ? I really am not a big fan of the whole shebang- but they 'stole' the good stores from Marley Station and its either Arundel Mills , or Annapolis Mall for me at times. Actually, Annapolis may be just as convenient.

Young couple that bought my moms house (I grew up in) invited me back for things. It was gratifying in one way to be able to tell them "well, that is kinda bad you should get rid of it" on things neither Mom nor I could muster the energy to tackle!. 'Lisa' was excited at the prospect of growing some herbs and veggies.

This is kind weather for our newly moved plants.

As far as what is happening in my neck of the woods, I really couldn't tell you what is going on outside the past several days. Due to very high temperatures, I have been shut up inside with the air conditioning running all day long. We are fortunate that the evenings cool down enough that about 7 or 8 PM, we usually cut the air off and open the windows and are really comfortable with that.

I do know that even after a week, my side porch and front deck are both loaded down with new goodies we received from the swap. Oh my gosh, we brought home a lot of things. The bare root items that needed immediate attention have all been addressed, and the other things will have to wait until cooler temperatures, which are supposed to begin tomorrow thankfully.

Due to some upcoming remodeling work in the plans, I have lots of work to keep me occupied indoors as well as outdoors. I have just spent the past two days emptying china cabinets and desk drawers and packing and storing till the carpeting is layed and I can begin returning things to their homes. Still have several closets to address and am wondering where we will store everything. It will be done, I am sure, it just isn't going to look pretty while it is getting done. I keep thinking of the end result and realize that all the inconvenience will be worth it.

Anyway.....hope your areas will be getting the cooler temps beginning tomorrow too. Take care and enjoy the day.

Beastly hot and humid here, too. Turned the air on yesterday. Hated to do it in May, but... We have been remodeling our kitchen for years. When I say we I mean Jeff. I do what I can when instructed. Lol. One of the replacement windows was put in last Thanksgiving. Another one last weekend. Had to wait for warmer weather and also time. Now that school is winding down he has more time in the evenings. This weekend are the last two. Now, when I say rlacement windows they aren't the ones you just pop out and pop in. He wanted new construction ones, which means that he has to remove the siding ever so carefully so it can be put back up. So, on this side of the house in the picture is this weekend's project. Removing the siding to beneath the windows, then replacing the windows, then putting up tyvek and now replacing the siding. I dearly love this man. One summer he made the cabinets then stored them in a neighbor's garage til we were ready for them.

I think anyone who knows what to do with a hammer to be very dear indeed.

Jan, Handy men are a wonderful blessing.
Ruby, Don't feel bad I did much the same thing. Potted up the barerooted plants (someone called it Plant Triage) made sure everything was parked in a shady spot and watered but most of them haven't gotten in the ground yet. I thought maybe I would plant some today and I might still yet but we are working on the new fence. Ric hated that he didn't get it done for the swap sure looks nice and makes such a big difference. I have been staining the boards and we will post a few pictures when it's done. Weather here is beastly too and we are expecting bad stormy tomorrow.

Plant triage here as well, cept for those that needed planting immediately. It's so hot for them, I don't want to stress them.

I'm madly labeling with the "permanent" labels.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Wow Jan, super! I kinda hate that our replacement windows are 'that much' smaller in the opening part with the insertable frame.

Still some holdouts to get planted here too. Where is all the sunny border that I need for some bushes?
Yesterday was a labeling party of my self- I sat in the shade and breeze and cut about a hundred mini blind labels. THen I took a pot of those, and vinyl tags and a marker and walked around madly labeling.
