Hi all, I need the proper name of it! At first I thought it was a bee... it has the look of a blood sucking creature.
Bee or not bee? That is the question!
Not a bee, a true fly, but I can't tell you which one. I'm sure someone else will.
Bee fly (Bombyliidae) - doesn't bite or sting; larvae parasitic on ground-nesting bees.
Cool! Thanks guys... is it friendly to other insects?
Not to bees...;-)
Some may be good pollinators - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bombyliidae
