This crazy bird has been beating itself to death against the living room window. This is the 7th hour (at least!).
The bird has a hot orange beak. Brown body ( mostly) with streaked orange and brown wings. When the wings are opened the underside is a hot orange. ( I haven't been this pursued in 40 years.) No change in behavior with open vs shut curtains. The impact is really rattling the window-- don't want the air seal to be compromised or that dumb bird to knock itself out because I bet there is a hungry snake nearby. The launch is executed from a japanese maple that is right outside the window- gorgeous in its spring finery.
Forgot the point of the post! What can I do??

Crazy bird! - what can I do??
Oh my goodness!!! This may be a little late lol He can't see the glass and wants in really bad! Is there any way you could hang a sheet or something visible on the outside of the window, or go outside and scare him off?
I suppose I can cover the window with foil or something.
I have been outside sweeping and making noise and movement today while weeding. Didn't deter the silly thing. It disappeared while I was outside but comes back as soon as I come back inside. It is a maniac.
Its beak is so thick and bright like a pumpkin - I wonder what kind of bird it is.
Sorry, I didn't come on all weekend once I got off work on Friday. Sounds like a pretty bird, did it finally go away?
It was a female cardinal. It figures - those ( the red males) are always diving into the windows. Females are sure pretty.
I took your advice but the lazy way. Cut off two long (5-6 squares each) of paper towels and side by side caught each at the top frame of the window. They move like wash on a clothesline in the breeze. Not flapping - but gentle. WORKED!!
