Another shade area on the deck.Christmas Tree Shop.Worth what I paid ,as we loose them to stormes at least once a year.
Garden Projects #8
Jen, in general it is not a good idea to use any herbicides near trees you want. Most tree roots are not very deep.
Finally had the landscape guy out yesterday, he brought his girlfriend who is a landscape architech, so we were gabbing.
He's the one who is going to excivate for our pool and we're also planning a patio with fire pit, so we picked the design, color and area now to wait for the price quote
hmmmm, well let's pray for the best...
Hope you recover soon after seeing the price quote.
I know...so not looking foward to THAT!
Yes, all pools are $$$.
We're getting an above ground pool
Inground prices start at 21,000 and that's without all the excavating and surround and all the extras so by the time it's all done would be around $40,000 ahhhh no thanks....we'll take the $3000, above ground price...what hubby wanted to do was take the soil from the patio area and create a berm against the above ground, so it looks almost inground....with these types of pools we can actually sink them into the ground with one end lower
Only $3K? What size?
Patti, you've been a busy girl! I'm still raking, will think about diving plants soon....Jo....like the umbrella.....I need a new one this year.......Jen, hope the price works out...can't believe how the cost of inground has risen......we paid less than 10,000.....but that was over 30 years ago!
24' round is $2552 ovals are more 16'X28' $3627
Mulching my berm and redigging the trench around it for the past couple days...sheesh the thing is HUGE(whose idea was this anyway///)
My neighbor's came over and gave me a compliment on it...makes ya feel good to know that others do appreciate what you do.
She works in a restaurant and said her boss has FAKE plants in the planters out front but doesn't like them, wants to hire someone to do a better job on them.....I asked " with more fake plants????" she asked if I was willing to give him some advice..."yeah, put something real in there"
I didnt know weather to post this on Spending Spree or here.
This is clean up by my garden helper.
This area is too steep for me to work on. It has been no-mans-land for years. Finally the neighbor and I decided it was my property. She is thrilled with thenew look. Just like Jen said it's nice to get a compliment and know it benefits the hood.
She is a gardener too and is easy about personal borders.
Looking good, Jo
Good luck with the quote, Jen.
Impressed and so happy to see the whole process, now I can't wait to see what you do with those areas unless you just keep them clean and natural.
Today was another day of moving shrubs and dividing perennials and raking and edging and of course weeding. DH started to tackle the huge and nasty job of cutting back our big mass of Rosa rugosa. I figure I made a couple hundred dollars worth of plants which makes me very happy. Weather was amazing, even a tad too hot.
Many new things blooming, including more tulips Here is Tulip Division 12 - Kaufmanniana 'Early Harvest' and Crocus vernus Negro Boy and tjhen Crocus vernus Jeanne d'Arc with Tulip Division 12 - Kaufmanniana Showwinner. Patti
had electrians here to install lines for a generator and a few other things today - got a lot of clean up down really just one more day and on too projects - will be ordering the annual 20 yds of dirt and compost this week
huge difference there jo!
Diesel or regular gas?
Patti! I will fill with hostas. too steep for me to garden, welllll maybe an astilbe or two. Also lamiums.
gas
forgot to mention i dug out the dogwood that broke at the soil line today and planted the stewarthia - that root ball of the dogwood was huge - pretty large one on the stewarthia to which was in one of those huge containers
Great job on that cleanup, Jo....perfect for hostas! Patti, love the white crocus with the red tulips.....good luck with the generator, Bill.....
Nice plan. I have a deer problem with hosta that are planted in our shady dell. They mostly ignore them during the summer, but chomp them to the ground in early Sept, but I still grow some of the easy ones (cheap out there. What about ferns too and heuchera? They would be easy and can be divided easily. I also love sweet woodruff that fills up a shady space quickly. And Hellebore would look great on the slope as would Pulmonaria and Brunnera . Those dark Ligularia or Actaea are great too. Oh so many choices. Of course that slope will be perfect for spring bulbs. Patti
Received quote, wasn't as bad as I thought but too high to do everything we want to do all at once, so now have to decide what projects hubby will do on his own and what we'll pay to have done
atti: I am jazzed with your ideas and plan to put Blue Cadet divisions in there also Guachamole. It is a big space and Its dangerous to do anything in there. DD will have to do the planting . I was pounding an ID stake in for a Witchazel and stood up,lost my balance and rolled down the hill onto neighbors driveway. My alarm button was useless because everyone in the hood had gone to work and besides it was in the house. DONT ask me why I have it and dont wear it much. The longer time goesby the more geezer stuff crops up.
I have some nice lamiums,White Nancy and Red Nancy which is really ping, also Golden Anniversery.I will divide Hermans Pride and add it to the spot. I definatly wont plant Creeping Jenny.
I bought Hostas from Hallsons, special's rack.
Earth Angel
Independance
Paradigm
I also have a Francais Williams that needs moveing. Poor thing Its a slow grower and has been moved 3 times in 4 years.

glad you are ok joann be careful!
was there any video of this mishap?
JoAnne! Glad you are OK, but you need to have your alarm with you....Sounds like you have a plan for that site....hope I can get to see it......
glad you are ok JoAnne... you don't need a lecture from me so I won't.. but please be careful
Yes, please be careful and wear that alarm. Great ideas for the slope.
Wow - scary, Jo. Glad you're okay.
The tumble was 3 years ago.I vowed to never garden there again. So much for vowes. My daughters call me "weeble-wobble" Its that kind of group.
My helper is doing lots of stuff. I guess in future I will hire him for a few days instead of by the job . Make a list starting in Feb. I am nervous about him tramping and weeding. No lilies show yet and I know there are going to be some with slopped foreheads when ther emerge.
Jo, I will lecture you :-)
As a visiting nurse I asked a client why she wasn't wearing her health call, and she said, oh, I told myself debi is coming today, I need to put it on. I don't know how long she only wore it on the days I went. She was cute, still planted impatiens by dropping them and stomping on them.
Not uncommon for people not to wear them. My aunt never did.
oh geeze
I want one where a nurse in a French maid outfit hurries to my side when I push the button.
Heehee
Geez Jo....do you wear it now?
Only while sleeping.
ordered the annual 20 yds of dirt/compost today - this must be the 10th year in a row
Thanks everyone. I wear it most of the time but sometimes I goes off if I am leaning hard on my spade handle and the medics show up fo no reason. I dont wear it when I am away from the house because I figure if I have a problem there will be people to help.
I got it when I lived alone and had 2 hips replaced and one of the replacements kept slipping out. Had to have another surgery.
I love how Debs old lady plants impatiens. I wont worry about how I plant things from now on.
It IS getting harder to transplant and dig holes.I'm glad garden space is nearly filled.
My garden helper has been here for 2 days, he leaves very clean beds. Thank gawd he can identify perennials.
