CLOSED: Identify this, please?

Providence, RI

Hello :)

There was some kind of insect clinging to my dog. I brushed it off and took a picture... It seems to have a really large body in comparison to its 6 legs and 2 antennas.

Identification of this would be great. Thank you!

I'm pretty sure (really sure) that it's a type of tick, but does anyone know what type? Should I do something with it in case my dog comes down with something?

Oakland, MD

definitely some type of tick. i wouldn't worry too much about it though.
growing up, i cant count the number of ticks i've found on pets without any troubles.
though you are in a high risk area. you wont need the tick.
get rid of it, flush it down the toilet is my best disposal method.
disease transmission happens during the bite. if something WAS transmitted, there is probably little to nothing you could do about it now.

So you don't recommend keeping the tick for testing or anything like that? Just get rid of it?

Oakland, MD

they dont test the tick itself, they just watch for symptoms in your pet.
so yeah, no point in keeping it.

Great, thanks :)
