I want to purchase percale sheets, the kind jc penney sold for years. Is 50 % cotton & 50 % synthetic what I am looking for? or is it a lower synthetic %?
I p/u some King size 450 ct cotton sheets last week and they are so thin and will be worn out within a year, I bet. Pd $45.00
percale sheets
The thread count is pretty decent. I bet they are tough.
My faves are the german ( thick and creamy) deep flannel. I get from Overstock.com
All these years thought percale was cotton. Didn't know could be synthetic.
Percale is the weave, not the fabric. It's a tighter weave than some others that don't say percale on the package. At least, that's my understanding.
I, like you, used percale sheets for years. They were so comfortable. I went looking for new ones last year and bought some that were labeled percale but got them on the bed and they were so darned stiff I knew I would never get them any softer. Think the thread count was too high. Too tight a weave.
No, the mix she stated was right. polyester is a synthetic and it is what makes them no iron. The reason we didn't have to iron anything for years. Now they are making almost everything in 100% cotton and they are so wrinkled, we all look like we just got out of bed.
Shortage of oil. They are using the oil for fuel etc. not clothes. My theory anyway. I finally found some on ebay about half and half and they are wonderful. Thin, tho and won't last a long time but they are comfortable while they do. And I didn't spend much on them. I spent over a hundred dollars for those cotton things and sent them to the thrift shop without hardly taking them out of the pkg. Should have taken them back. But the store is over a hundred miles away and didn't want to waste any more money on them.
I have many sets of 100% cotton and no wrinkles. Maybe it is the "weave" thing??
I don't like synthetic because (to me ) they don't 'breathe' and I get real hot at night. The 100 percent cotton flannels are cool in summer and warm in winter and I feel like the sheets lay on the skin as opposed to riding over it. I guess that is what keeps the manufactures with so many fabrics and styles-- different strokes for different folks.
I too like the sheet to 'breathe'. I do not buy the microfiber sheets (100% synthetic) for that purpose.
I have never cared for the flannel sheets. When we were young and lived in a real cold climate my mother always put them on the bed in the winter. Never did like them. I know the ones today are surely different than those, but don't even care to try them.
No, I would not try the microfibers either. I don't have a problem with the 50 x 50% either heating up or not breathing. I have never had anything 100% cotton that didn't wrinkle. Would like to know the brand of the one that didn't and where did you get it?
I cut off tags as soon as I unwrap and wash. I will look tho maybe didn't get to the matching pillowcases since tags inside. I think egyptian cotton.
Westpoint Stevens100% combed cotton - nary a wrinkle.
I will google them and see if I can see where they are sold locally. Are they soft, or stiff when you sleep on them? The ones I bought were so stiff they kept me away they were so uncomfortable.
I had thought I looked at the Egyptian cotton. Maybe not.
Super soft but not so new either. I think I got when we moved here 10 yrs or soon after. Although, I think soft from the get go. I almost exclusively use light and heavyweight flannel and so even tho the sheets in question were purchased a while ago, they have not been washed to death and made soft that way. I think it is some of the synthetics that add the stiffness to the fabric. I loked up percal on ehow.com and I think that is what I read.
Baby's 100% cotton crib sheets seem universally soft. I don't recall a wrinkle - although it is a good tight stretch over that crib mattress - doubt a wrinkle could survive! Maybe those crib sheet manufacturers make adult bed linens. I do recall a complete infant crib set that had horrid stiff sheets. It was one of the bed in a bag types but for cribs. Those were cotton and poly and I cant say I even bothered to look at the percents but I think most likely poly won the % race. ( they sure were pretty tho. ) no way would I let baby's face rub on them.
If you go to BBB and don't like the sheet- you can take right back and say too wrinkled after washing. That way you can have a trial run and not be stuck with the sheets. I bet the Marriott 100 % cotton won't wrinkle but $$$ - marriott sells all their linens and the pillow protective covers are 100 % cotton I think. Some slight wrinkling but not much. You use and the wrinkles fall out.
I tried to find. Looked under westpoint...and it kept coming up martex

Yes, there are several stores in Spokane. I will have to look. Thanks.
Good luck and hope that these are similar to what we have - looks the same.

I looked a bit on line, but didn't get into the brand etc.
yes, I will check Kohl's. Thank you mucho!
So funny you guys, I had an appt. in the city, a hundred miles from home yesterday, and I only have so much energy so am kind of selective about where I go. But, just happened to see a Big Lot store which I didn't know was there, and Bob's mom used to go to in Seattle quite a lot. So, I wanted to see what it was.
I was just wandering thru to get an idea of what they were about, and guess what I came across. Martex sheets, 100% cotton, but I think they were 250 count. $20 for the size I use, full. They were very limited in colors, I think white and brown. They did have the stripe also, but not in my size. Now I could have gotten some of those for Bob's bed, but I don't think they were the cotton. They were 60% cotton and 40% polyester. My blend that I always look for. Think they were North Shore???? Can't remember if you had mentioned that brand. They were queen, and I think also $20. Good prices!! Since I wanted to look thru the whole store I didn't get any and I should have. Do any of you know anything about Big Lots?
there is one in town. i have never been but buddies go (I don't get out much ...it was just last year I saw this show about teams on an island and they had to compete ........... I was so excited watching it each week and then a coworker said THAT'S SURVIOR AND I CAN TELL YOU RIGHT NOW WHO WON! ) Anyway, don't get out much ;0) But I think Big Lots just sells what they get large deliveries of from the misc big stores. Like an overstock.com but local not internet and you find what you find - you can't expect to go there and find the same things in same place week after week. Is that right everyone?? That is how I have heard it described. I don't know what my sheets were thread count and it looks like my brand and Martex are related since when I punch it in Martex keeps popping up . ps THAT IS A GREAT PRICE.
