Tropical Plants and Gardens #118

Blackshear, GA

Kay,
Normally I would say 'Yeah' that's it", but this is a concrete/brick planter attached to the house and I just added the potting soil when I planted the plants, so no, she just listened to the little devil on her shoulder and said 'why not? I'm not sure what her problem is, but she has never dug and the last two weeks shes digging down the side of the house.

Bet there was compost or manure in the potting mix. I cannot use organic ferts like Holly tone or my fur boy will dig or worse, roll in them. Dogs also like cool places to lay, we have some huge holes under some variegated ginger where our cools off. Thankfully the ginger does not seem to mind.

One time we trained our golden to dig on command - how cool is that! I was sick of telling him "no dig" and one day when we were clearing some brush I told him dig here and he did, we were able to pull acres of roots out with his help. He got used to the plentiful praise and controlled himself and only dug on command after that.

Maybe there's something living under the house she's after - I can assure you she's agitated/excited about SOMETHING in or around that planter.

My little Abutilons that I started from seed are blooming nicely now, but today I found this odd double flower. Anyone seen the like before? It's two flowers joined at the base on one stem.

Although I love this pale yellow, all the plants seem to be the same color. The seed packet was for "mixed pastel shades". arg. I guess the yellows were the most vigorous seeds that germinated best.

GAgirl,

I hear ya, that sounds like it was very frustrating! Especially if that hasn't been her nature in the past. Why start now with your newly planted bed! I know you put a lot of work into them and I bet they are going to turn out great. I hope that your black lab has more respect for you hard work in the future.

Yup, we were well down into the 50's last night, too. One more cool night to enjoy sleeping with the windows open! Feels wonderful out in the garden through the day, too. Gotta enjoy it while we can, it sure won't last long!

Is that your Alligator Fern in the left corner of the 3rd picture above - great texture on the leaves!

My Amaryllis 'Bogota' went over quickly in the warmth, but now has a second bloom that's lasting great!

Lovely photos, Cassie. How big is your Michelia alba?

I want one, but will have to find room if it needs full sun and space for a 20ft. tree.

beautiful flowers everyone. I finally made it over to Tropicamans place, and his white BOP has finally bloomed after 18 yrs, I was so sad to kmnow he and his wife are moving to texas, but good news is his daughter will be living there and she will have most of his green house gardens.
Rose, my 30 almost 31 yr old went with me and she loved the birds ( he has 6 or 8 wonderful tropical birds) and his fish were amazing and well, they are an amazing couple. wish I had my camera with me to show you his stuff, he is amazing with tropicals in the middle of Wichita kansas..

Speaking of Texas, anybody heard from Rita? They must be busy house-hunting or something.

This is another lovely little start I got from her last fall, and the tag again has been lost. Anybody ID this for me?
