I love Dutch Iris but I must say, I never thought of planting them in amoung the daffodils. Those two tulip beds you show in the first two posts of the day are really lovely. I have a bed of about 100 Gudoshnik tulips myself but of course mine are not blooming yet. Not even showing buds yet. And I must say I love those shots of the Parrot tulip bed. I was looking at the Parrot tulip mix at Scheepers myself and planning to order for this fall. Thinking of getting 100 or so. I will have to check out Colorblends also.

Duluth, GA(Zone 7b)

Thanks Rita. I did the 100 Parrots from Colorblends. I don't think you can go wrong with either company. I've got some in pots as well with pansies, but they haven't bloomed yet. Annette

Annette, your beds of parrot tulips are gorgeous!I love their dramatic coloring and conformation.

Thanks LG. I've really enjoyed these tulips this year. I'll definitely be getting more for fall planting.

Here are a few more pics from blooming bulbs today. The Hyacinthoides are starting to bloom, and Narcissus Tahiti is starting to bloom amongst the tulips, Gudoschnik, and La Courtine.

I really like the orange trumpet ones. It is so pretty.

Beautiful pics jmorth. I love the different angles, and day and night shots that you've taken. Keep them coming ;~}

Annette, the peony-flowering tulips are spectacular. I ordered a few "Sun Lover" last year to test. I put them in a border with "Orange Bouquet". They were such a success I planted more last fall. They aren't blooming yet, but here is how they looked last spring.

I have been looking at peony flowering tulips and have to agree that they sure are pretty. I just wonder about all the weight of the flowers and if they might have troubles staying upright?

Leawood, KS(Zone 5b)

The "Sun Lover" variety seem to have very sturdy stems, so I didn't notice any problem with them standing up. I saved some "Monte Carlo" peony-flowering tulips after forcing them for pots in the yard and planted them in the border. Here's how they looked last April - again, sturdy stems seemed to hold them up through wind and rain.

That is good to know.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

My Sunlovers stayed upright, and they have come back this year, and multiplied considerably.

Wonderful, Polly!

Duluth, GA(Zone 7b)

Rita, I agree with LG and pollyk, the peony flowering tulips do have thicker stems, and have no problems stayng upright.

Here are a few pictures from today. The Dutch iris continue to send up more blooms. Here's more Apollo, and a Blue Magic opened today as well. I ordered Oriental Beauty from VE, but Blue Magic came instead, with few OB and some Bronze Beauty in the bunch. Oh well!!!!

Lovely, lovely combos.

Duluth, GA(Zone 7b)

Thanks polly. Here's Narcissus Thalia, and I believe My Story, and another with a name I cannot recall, and Hawera. I got Hawera to specifically plant around the lilies for protection.

I do so love Dutch Iris and think I will add some more to the garden this fall. Many of my Dutch Iris from two years ago came up again this year so we will see how well they bloom.

As to the peony flowered tulips, I just think they are so pretty. I already looked and see Scheepers has a peony flowered mix which I think I should get. That way I get a nice mix of colors. I didn't see one called SUN LOVER there though.

Duluth, GA(Zone 7b)

Check Colorblends for the peony flowering tulips. They have an excellent selection of combos, and they send nice healthy bulbs.

Leawood, KS(Zone 5b)

I order all of my bulbs from Van Bourgondein (http://www.kvbwholesale.com/)

Leawood, KS(Zone 5b)

I dug and saved the bulbs that were in a large bed to the south of my house. Photo #1 shows how they looked last April. Last fall I planted the saved bulbs in another bed, along the border of my garden. With the mild weather, they are much farther along this year. Photo #2 shows how they look today, after a day of rain. The 'Pink Impression' variety seems to open earlier than the other colors.

This year the bed to the south has 'Olympic Flame' Darwin tulips. Photo #3 shows how the bed looks today, after the rain.
