black leaves on Pink Tacoma

Ramona, CA(Zone 9b)

Last year I germinated Pink Tacoma tree seeds and all is fine except about half of them are developing leaves that are turning black. Could this be a soil problem or a fertilizer problem? The seedlings are about 1 foot tall. Thanks Jim

Can you post some pictures? Black often suggests fungus/too much water but a picture would help.

That is a burn. Could be fertilizer. Could be salt. Maybe someone else will be more informed. Does not look like a fungus to me.
