Today the temp got above 50 so I moved my Myers Lemon outside, it has over 40 buds and blooms on it.
It was only outside 20 min and a honey bee was all over it. I was happy...she was happy. Before long her sister showed up to help.
So late this summer I will have to get a crew over to pick the fruit. ^^_^^
Build (plant) it and they will come
It's in a room we call the sun room, (12'x30' which includes the dinning room) two 2'x4' skylights.
The room is east facing but receives only maybe 2 hours of sun light a day. I use no other lights for the plants. No extra heat. I do give them good organic food, (worm poo tea) but in the winter they need very little water. I move them (a lemon, orange and key lime) outside on a patio area for the summer. There they get rain and 'tea' when they need it.
I only got one lemon last year, but this year I may have to bring in a crew to harvest. ^^_^^
About 6 hours a day
Crazy question...but do the Myers Lemons have to be pollinated in order to produce lemons?
Let me restate the question about how much sun...in the winter when the plant is inside it gets maybe an hour of direct sun in the AM but it set by 3 , 5ft windows so receives ambient light the rest of the day.
Yes they do need to be pollinated. Last year it was outside when it bloomed, so the bees took care of it.
This year it started blooming while too cold to go out side, so I used a small paint brush to tickle the blooms as it warmed a little I moved it outside and the bees took over.
I've had it in the house because it been too clod to be outside, but the next 5 or so days will be warm so out it goes during the day and back in when the temp drops below 50.
Looks like all of next week will be sunny and 50 or above day and night, so the lemon will stay out all week.
I read that some one makes lemon aid from them and adds no sugar ? ? ?
