Your First Clematis to Bloom in the New Year? Let's see it.

Augusta, GA(Zone 8a)

My two Ruutels and a Geum, Mrs Bradshaw, very nice color first time growing them.

Very nice, Etelka. We had Mrs. Bradshaw for a few years and it was lovely. I think it got crowded out by other perennials.

It appears from your photo that you potted up lilies. I do the same thing for the first year or two to be sure of the name, color, height.

Louisville, KY

I am having some problem with my messages being posted.
Arlene I have had no luck with clematis seeds so far this year. They are all out in my little box at this time. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

John - we had no luck when we tried. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Beautiful clems. Etelka. Wishing you good luck there John.

Here goes, my first 'Niobe' for the season. actually the thing opened yesterday....it bloomed sorta late for most of my B.o.W. blooms seemed to be fully opened. All things considered, 'Niobe' will be termed a 'Late bloomer' this year.

Keep good records. If it happens that way again you'll at least be prepared for it.

Miss Bateman planted spring 2008. I ordered Henryi but the lady came instead.

Another lost tag. Any guesses?

They're all so beautiful, Arlene. Empress and Josephine are glorious and Miss Bateman is very close in looks to Henryi. I think this is the first time I've seen Snow Queen in an actual photo - very nice!

Duluth, GA(Zone 7b)

Everyone's blooms are so beautiful. Spring really is here.

Pink Champagne continues to bloom nicely, as short as it is. It has 5 blooms on this very short vine, with a 6th soon to be open. The blooms are so close together, I can't capture them in one picture.

To my surprise, Mrs. Cholmondeley opened it's first bloom today.

Love that color! Is this the first year they're blooming?

Edited to say we cross posted. Mrs. Chumley (love that nickname) looks great.

Thanks Arlene, PC did bloom a little last year, but the blooms were smaller, and not as colorful. Here's Miguel Viso, this is it's second spring in the garden, and it bloomed today as well. PC, Mrs C., and MV are all from Brushwood and were planted last April.

Very nice. Brushwood does sell good plants.

Duluth, GA(Zone 7b)

I've been very please with the Bruswood vines this year. I can't wait to receive this spring's order.

Beaumont, TX(Zone 9a)

pirl,

The first photo was ID as Ramona; I bought it from Lowe's and it was tagged "virgin's bower". Is it Ramona?

Here's two photo of an NOID; It is a lovely dark, dark velvety bloom. The camera just doesn't capture the richness of the color. Can someone id her?

Many clematises are labeled as 'Virgin's Bower', which may have been the old name for all clem's. I don't think it's Ramona. Here's a link to Brushwood's page showing all their large flowered clematises including Ramona. I figured you could look for a match for the no ID clem since I am not sure of the name. http://www.brushwoodnursery.com/large_flowered_clematis.htm

My guess would have been one of the Jackmanii cultivars but colors vary too much between your zone and up here.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Terrific collection there Cattjovi. Thank you for sharing both of your 'Josephine' and 'Empress'. Now I can see the distinctive difference between the two clems. Josphine is what I wanted. So I'll keep an eye out to collect it when available. Those are love NOID Inthegarden. Hope you will find a match for them.

Augusta, GA(Zone 8a)

I have been braging about my first bloom Sunset, today it is in trouble, I think it is the heat. I have not covered it as good as I should, when I came home today it was listless and droopie, even that I watered it last night. Anybody knows is that permanent or it will recover. I just hope it is not a worm chewing it from the bottom.

Sorry, I can't diagnose the problem but please give it a lot of mulch and no more water. Let's see how it looks in a few days.

How hot has it been there?

Duluth, GA(Zone 7b)

Here's a better picture of Mrs. C, which shows the true color.

I'm being teased by Omoshiro. It looked just like this when I left for work today, and the same when I came home. I can't wait to see it open.

Mrs. C. is lovely - such a nice soft color. How funny that Omoshiro is playing games with you but isn't the reverse just stunning?

Duluth, GA(Zone 7b)

It's definitely stunning. We're finally getting some rain tonight, so hopefully it will be fully open tomorrow. The garden needs a good watering, it's been very hot and dry here.

Here are my two that are open now...
I think the left one is Jackmanii and the one on the right is Multi Blue. They look ok for newer plants.

ALL terrific blooms! I love all of them and that rose is spectacular.
