My Armandii clematis, on Valentine Day 1st pix.
2nd is today's pix;
Your First Clematis to Bloom in the New Year? Let's see it.
Great job!
So fun! kim
I love that view.
Thank you Marie, Kim, and Arlene. I'll tell hubby of your compliments. I went back and look. Boys! Aren't these early this year due to our exceptionally warm winter. Last year, they didn't bloom until 1st week of March. When the Redbuds were blooming at the same time. Here are two pix taken 3/10/11 of the redbuds and the evergreen clematis. The two compliment one another beautifully.
I have roses putting out new shoots, Clems growing, daffodils blooming, but the crocus are just popping out of the ground.

Marie, spring is def. on the air. Birds are building their nests. I'm looking forward to the growing season. I've a few crocus blooming here. Hiacynths and Daffs were early this year as well.
Lots of crocuses already in bloom and the daffodils are in bud but not yet blooming. Hyacinths have pushed up and clematises are showing swollen buds as are the roses. What a wonderful winter we've had.
I was hearing all the noise the other evening and I thought maybe we had another ground hog digging under the shed. I tip toed out and walked over the bridge next to the shed and listened, but to my surprise it was a bunch of hawks in the trees, I guess either mating or making nests. But they were sure making a lot of noise.
Marie, I saw hawks quite often here. But not making a rackets like so. I hope they won't hang around the garden too long. An occasional passing through is welcome. lol
If they eat the voles and moles, I will be happy, but not the fish in the pond...lol
Lily_love those look just like my tete a tete daffs - I love them - so tiny and yet so perfect!!
Marie, we do have our "drathers" lol. If only ... Just like how I love seeing Bald Eagles, but when I saw them actively hunting and capture another bird... I almost faint. Since then, I don't "love" to see them as much any more. lol
kjuddy, I think you're right. Those gotta be Tete a Tete daffs. I love their tiny stature in the garden which make my garden looks bigger. lol
They have to eat too Lily-Love. It is all in Mother Nature.
Aww, bananna18, you've won the race!!! Lovely, lovely!
Wonderful, Anna!
I think our heavy rain on Saturday gave me an advantage.
Congratulations! I love Nelly and have a few of her. She'll be 20 years old by the time she blooms but that's still two months away.
I wanted to inform everyone that the Clem,s that the tree men ripped from the trellis, are coming back strong. That is a Nelly and Josephine for ya.
It is rewarding that after some fussing, they are hardier than imagined.
Looking forward to the bloom show from Alabama, Lilylove!
Wow! She's so white for you! Up here she's a very pale lavender fading to white. Very nice!
Snow white beauty!
She also has a hint of green there. I love this double blooming clem. Now she needs to slow down to wait on Niobe whose buds are still small yet.
Maybe it's because of the location where I have Niobe but I consider it the poorest grower of all my clem's. When it does well, it's fine but still not a huge lush plant as many others are. I do love the color!
Niobe is not a 'big' clem. for me either, Arlene. I've two one in a half whiskey barrel with BoW, the other climbing up a Crossvine in a deeper shade. Though, the one in the hwb shows more blooms each year. The size of the 2 vines twinning just about the same I think.
Thanks for the post. I really thought it was the plant's genes at fault and I'm just glad I'm not the only one with a less than robust Niobe. I put it on an 8' trellis and it takes up 2 - 3' at best. Years later I added Falstaff, a rose that's supposed to get 6 - 8' but it remains at around 3'. Maybe the trellis is a jinx.
Now the excitement of the day -- for me. Are these buds from 'Empress' my first double pink clematis ever!
Ooops, forgot the pic. ...it's coming next.
