Cute Grape hyacinths speedie!
Not yet Gita...
Whats happening in your neck of the woods? Pronostications
Sally---
Did you give it a dormancy period between October and February?
Like--no watering to speak of--cool temps (like in an unheated basement)...
That all helps...
You know all mine reside in my shop for the winter. Almost totally dry and only one shop-light
above them to provide a bit of light during the days. Nights--nothing...
They actually seem to do quite a bit of root growth during this period.
Maybe you will get some blooms soon....I hope so! Gita
JB--
Good to hear from you again!
My early Daffs are all done! I have a couple bunches, in different locations, that bloom later.
These are not even in bud yet...When they DO bloom--the blooms last quite long.
As of now--things are looking pretty sad with all this rain. But--we sure needed it.
JB--A while back--did you not ask me about rooting African Violets in water? With the plastic wrap
stretched over a small glass and the stem poked through it.??
I just found one I has stashed behind my big Brug cuttings. All rooted...not sure when I started it.
Here! take a look... The last picture is of me and Sally ("donner") at the "Timmonium Home and Garden Show".
Sally is the real AV guru. Man! Can she propagate them!!!
Gita
Here are a couple pictures of it.
I think I am going to cry. No, I am going to have a drink of wine instead, then I will cry. Why can I not do that or for that matter grow seeds??????crap.
AWWW, JB!
You CAN do that!!!!--get a really small vase, or glass. Fill it, almost, to the top with water.
Cover the top tightly with a piece of plastic wrap. Poke a small hole in the plastic wrap with the tip of a sharp knife.
Stick half of the stem of an AV leaf through the hole--and then....wait.....a couple of months--at least.
Rooting in soil is better, though. I just started a new leaf in soil, with a clear, plastic glass
over the pot the leaf is inserted in. Using up all my old Venus Fly Trap pots/glasses. Moisten the soil.
Insert the 2" stem of the AV leaf into the moistened soil, making sure the bottom of the leaf does not touch the soil--
nor the edges of the leaf touch the sides of the clear glass over the top of the pot.
The glass on top has to fit tightly--thus creating a very small terrarium effect. No need to ever water--unless
you have a loose fitting top glass. Then you may need to dribble a bit of water into the pot.
This is my ultimate rooting way of AV leaves. "Donner" roots all kind of AV's and they are lush from day one.
Then she gives a few to me--and they just sit there and look dumpy.
Do not despair, JB--Just give it a try! Gita
Just now I am up to my you know what in blooming daffodils and can not sell them fast enough. The wind and the weather are killing me and them. Last night it was 28 deg. and believe it or not it did hit a few of the ones that have been blooming for a week or more, but the late ones are just fine, but my gosh it is cold out there cutting and bunching them in that wind. I nearly froze my old butt off this morning for sure.
Since Market Place closed I opened that store on Webstore and put some things on Cubits, put some on Classified on DG and eBay is up and running and I have sold NOTHING the past few days. My Aimee Gardenias have begun to get buds and they are full of them. Also a few little black critters on them and if I do not get rid of the critters before my inspection I will have to have a reinspection later in the summer which is not good because everything goes outside except the Christmas Cactus cuttings so it is useless for him to come then, but he does and he goes over all the plants with a magnifying glass. Honest to God.
I must eat some lunch and go design some cemetery cones this afternoon. I sure do not feel clever.....not today. See you later
JBerger, you may not have *felt* clever when you wrote that, but you **sounded** clever! =)
OH, crumb. I had the clivias (one from Gita, and another smaller one) in among the amaryllises as they were sprouting and blooming, and everybody got watered all winter long. I was just thinking that I needed to check my growing instructions on the clivia and see what I was or wasn't doing since they weren't blooming. :^] Gita, you gave me such good instructions on them, and I blew it! But both plants are healthy and have put up lots of new leaves over the winter... so maybe next year they'll be spectacular! I wonder if it's too late to let them dry out for a while... humph.
OH, crumb. I had the clivias
My first thought when I read that was "Oh dear, you need to see a doctor!"... then I finished reading... Hmmmm, another plant I'll have to look up 'cause I'm not at all familiar with Clivias! =)
Hahahaha. Glad I didn't have coffee in my mouth when I read that.
OMG that did sound funny. JB
I tell ya's, sometimes mis-reading things is fun! :) You *know* you've got it bad when you're reading about a recipe online being described as "delicious" and you read it as "deciduous", and wonder **HOW** a recipe can lose its leaves! < =/
Jill--
I would not worry about the Clivia. Do you have the directions I gave you somewhere nearby?
It can be had as a house plant. You probably do not water your Amaryllis all that much either, do you?
So--the Clivia got watered. No biggie!
I do not remember if the one I gave you had bloomed before???? I do not think so!
I still have 3 big ones that have not bloomed either.....and three that did/are.
So next year will be you chance to 'do it right"...teee...hee.......:o
Just do not re-pot it for the next 5-6 years........:o) It will bloom better when hugely root-bound.
