Wow! Is that real? It looks like something a kid would get as a prize out of a "gum ball" machine.

This could be a male orb weaver in the genus Eriophora - see http://www.whatsthatbug.com/wp-content/uploads//2010/01/unidentified_spider_australia_iwi.jpg for a similar specimen.

oh, now that its down it does kinda look like an orbweaver of some type.

Eriophora transmarina maybe?
Highly variable in pattern, and the closest thing i can find =3.
