CLOSED: mystery eggs

Riverside, CA(Zone 9a)

I'm assuming these are the eggs of some sort of insect. I found them on a pole in my vegetable garden. Any ideas? They've been there for a couple of weeks now.

This is a praying mantis egg case of some type =)
Not sure which species you have over in CA, but after poking around I'm pretty sure its the California Mantis: Stagmomantis californica.

Someone who knows CA mantids will have to confirm though XD.

The egg cases (oothecae) of Stagmomantis californica and Stagmomantis carolina (which also occurs in California) are quite similar - http://bugguide.net/node/view/35361 and http://www.flickr.com/photos/entomopixel/4777910953/, respectively.

Did not realize the carolina mantis ranged that far west, could be either one then.

Sweet! Thanks for the ID!

Stagmomantis californica oothecae are light brown. This ootheca has dark brown and a light brown zipper. It might be Stagmomantis carolina or Stagmomantis limbata. This ootheca's shape is a little different from all the oothecae I have seen of Stagmomantis carolina and Stagmomantis limbata.
