CLOSED: Yellow and Black Crab like Thorny Spider

Petaling Jaya, Malaysia

Found this guy on my Thai Mulberry. It spun a web between that and my Sunflowers which were like 4-5 feet away. He is kind of heavy to jump that far. What is he. I have more pictures and a 2 clips of it but I can only post 1 image.

He / She is beautiful though but it went mental when I picked it up by its shell.

khooleo,

It is indeed a spider in the genus Gasteracantha. It is the species illustrated in the link provided by Flapdoodle, but that spider has the wrong name attached. Yours is the Dorias Spiny Spider (Gasteracantha doriae) : http://www.photographersdirect.com/buyers/stockphoto.asp?imageid=3179335

I have created an entry for Gasteracantha doriae in BugFiles here: http://davesgarden.com/guides/bf/go/6822/
and we would be very pleased if you would add your images of this spider to that page,

Cheers to Flap and Ken. Will add pics ASAP.

I just realized it looks like an Invid Scout from the Robotech series! :)
