CLOSED: LARGE BROWN SPIDER: reoccurring in my house.

San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago

Hi! I have spotted (and killed) several large brown spiders in my home in the Caribbean.I have not been able to identify what type of spider it is for certain but it most resembles the brown recluse and the huntsman spider.I'm hoping its not venomous.

Within the past 4 months I have killed 4 spiders and have found 1 already dead. I have cats and have been spraying the house regularly but every once in a while they seem to appear.PLEASE HELP as i am a bit worried about whether or not they pose a threat to my family.Thank you :)

Definitely NOT a Brown Recluse. I'm going with Huntsman Spider. Generally, all spiders are venomous but these are not known to be harmful to humans or their pets. Although, the bite can be painful, they are, usually, welcomed inside the home as they keep insect populations down.

I think the 'dead' one you found is a shed skin.

another thing to consider is that your spraying may actually be making them move out to the open where you see them more often and spraying may not be healthy for your cats.
the spiders are your least worrisome pick.

Definitely a huntsman (Sparassidae), and as kwanjin said, harmless to humans.

That's a relief! Thanks a lot :)

You're very welcome. And welcome, also, to Dave's!
