Wonderful photos ! Here is a new visitor to our feeders, although this morning, he was down on the ground. Is this a purple finch ?

House Finch, though a slightly odd-looking one.

That one's a Myrtle Warbler - white throat, and ear coverts darker than the crown. Both winter in California.

Great shots red, ducbucin, Ladi, Lily and Countrymom!!

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Resin, thank you for the correction.

Great photos Lily,Ladi and Countrymom.

Cuyahoga Falls, OH(Zone 5a)

Resin - Odd looking one ? How so ? Educate me, please :)

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Mainly that its red is somewhat pinky-purple toned, rather than the more normal brick red. Which is why it is a bit reminiscent of Purple Finch. But it has typical House Finch streaked flanks and brown mantle.

Wow, can't believe that I almost missed this whole thread! Margaret all of those pictures are incredible. I can't believe that you've been taking such gorgeous photos for 35 years!
Duc, always love your shots.
Doug, great eagle shots.
Resin, awesome shot of that totally cool bird! Congrats!
Burd and Ladi Burd, congrats on the lifers.
Great pics everyone, so glad I didn't miss them! Sometimes I forget to mark "watch" on the new thread. Hate it when that happens.

I enjoyed a fun birding day Saturday but didn't realize that I had my camera still set for a cloudy day when the sun came out. I was so disappointed that my Merlin shots didn't turn out better. This is the best look that I've ever had of one.

This was one of the last pics that I took all day and that was when I realized that the settings were wrong. Oh well. It happens.

congratulations Burd. We had a couple tundra swans hanging around a resovair. first time that I had seen them.

Just wonderful bird photos everyone.Yesterday was a nice sunny day here. Temp got up to 30 degrees which is pretty good for this time of year. Still no snow, but that is fine by me except for the protection the snow offers. I took my puppy, Lady Wren for her first walk outside of fenced yard. We went down the lane to the mailbox. Had to walk by the only neighbors house. She has an old Red Setter type dog. It saw us and began to bark, first time my pup had seen another dog except her own family and she was scared to death, tried to climb up my leg, but all in all she enjoyed the walk.

Tried to take a picture of the large Horned Owl at daylight sitting on the only utility pole in my immediate area, but too dark and far away.

I am having a hard time sending pictures but will try again.

Can't get other pictures of my puppy to send one. This is Lady Wren at about 6 weeks, she is now 4 months, Sorry I am having so much trouble with my picture sending. Donna

Norman, OK

elphaba, I don't have a pic of a Merlin, but have seen one a couple of times recently. So far he won't let me get close enough for any kind of shot. No pics yesterday, cloudy gray day, same today.

Pic of one of the first-winter male BB's that are coming in with Mama and Daddy to the mealworm feeder.

Edit: Used a trial version Topaz Adjust on that file to create a blue sky. Don't care for it, appears to make blurring along edges and blur focus. First time to try, but don't like this.

Still feeding about a dozen Anna's Hummingbirds. This guy was doing his best to look mean to the others, but they just ignored him.

A couple days ago, we put out a dish of critter goodies. We were hoping the squirrel would come back. The jays came this morning. This one picked up every peanut, examined it, put it back down, and eventually chose one. It was sunny today, so the blue came out pretty nicely.

Beautiful Anna's duc!

(Zone 5a)

I am so behind. We were out of town. I did gain a lifer, confirmed by Resin, a Northern Harrier. What a beautiful start to this thread, Margaret! What a find, Resin with the Desert Wheateater!

Well, it seems there are still a few Bluebirds in Iowa. This was near Coralville on Saturday.

Well, perhaps this should be on the AWFUL Thread, but it's a lifer, so had to post.

A Rufous Hummingbird has been visiting a feeder a couple of miles from me. It has been captured, banded and identified as a female Rufous.

Here she is in the drizzle. And I had just taken my feeders down last week again after having put them up when the mystery hummingbird showed up in Oak Park IL.

Enjoy watching the WB Nuthatch also. Great pics!
