A waspy type of hopper!

Roxby Downs, Australia

I have no idea what these things are. We live in the Australian desert and just noticing these coming in our yard. Their a bit creepy. My cat wont even go near them. Our pest man doesn't know what they are either?

I swear it has the head of a cricket, and looks like a female. I can't wait until you find out what it is. Lovely insect though! :)
I am going to stay with it being a species of cricket.

This could be one of the several species of raspy cricket native to Australia - http://www.lochmantransparencies.com/p13711/king-cricket

Oh wow, that really does look similar! Its still the body colour and shape that is throwing me off!

Because not all species are imaged, you may be unable to locate an exact match.

I tell your bug guy to do some research ;) I mean, that's what you pay him for, right?

I agree with Flapdoodle.
The pest man not knowing the bug is a good sign, in that it probably won't be pesty, but I wish pest guys all had enough curiosity to go expand their knowledge.
