I considered mountain ash as a possibility but due to its size and the fact that Armerican mountain ash likes cooler climates I didn't think that could be correct.

Does look like it could be an ash, the leaves appear to be opposite, but the pic isn't clear enough to be certain. Can you get some more close-ups showing the leaf arrangement on the branches?

Also look out for any seeds.

It has gorgeous fall color. Peak color here was 1-2 wks ago.

You'd know for sure if you see any of the berries.
The berries are usually present around the same time as the fall coloration.

I noticed the leaves are almost gone. I haven't been able to get back to have a closer look. Maybe berries will still be present on the ground--Then if all else fails, I will stop my car when I see my neighbor out and ask him!
