I am interested in purchasing a monkey puzzle tree to use as a house plant, everything I've read about it is kinda scary. Has anyone had experience with it as a house plant.

I, personally, would not have one as a house plant. They have sharp and pointy edges.

Even aside from the sharp & pointy edges, I'm not sure they make good houseplants. You might try its close relative Araucaria heterophylla instead, many people grow it as a houseplant and it's softer around the edges http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/31757/

Also consider a wollemi pine. Fascinating story behind this tree. Believed to be extinct for about 200 million years until a discovery in 2000. Similar look as a Monkey Puzzle but not "hazardous" to the touch. I have both in the house during winter months. Wollemi is a great conversation starter.

Not so easy. I got mine from National Geographic. You can also go to the official website. They're pricey but the proceeds go to protecting this "dinosaur"....
