Anyone know what this is?

Albuquerque, NM

Picture taken in Las Vegas, NV. The photographer claimed brown recluse, but I thought it looked a bit too fat to be one of those, and can't see the fiddle pattern/eyes.

No need to worry about it being a brown recluse in nevada.
Here's a link to the range map, which you can find on the wikipedia entry for the brown recluse..

Well, I can vouch for there being brown recluse in Nevada. My brother was bitten by one while living there.

The odds are that a brown recluse was not responsible for your brother's bite symptoms. There is a tremendous amount of misinformation on this spider, and most medical personnel are not capable of identifying spiders with any accuracy. See http://spiders.ucr.edu/recluseid.html and

As Flapdoodle said, even where I live we have the same problem, where spider bites are blamed on the brown recluse, because as said, medical personnel just don't know enough to make an accurate identification. Either that, or they look at a bite and ASSUME. It's unfortunate really.

Regardless, more interested in what type of spider this is in the picture.

It's kind of hard to tell from this pic but, my guess would be Wolf or Funnel Web or Grass Spider.

Wolf spider.
