I recently had the pleasure of visiting this arboretum for the first time (in the rain, but at least I got there). I thought I'd post a few pictures so others could enjoy this wonderful place. The two portions I visited were the Penjing and Bonsai section, and the Gotelli collection of conifers. I'll post the bonsai photos on that forum, and the conifers here. This first one is Juniperus x pfitzeriana 'Sulphur Spray'.
National Arboretum, Washington DC
nice granite!
My wife and I visited the arboretum last Memorial Day.
Took a while to find the place.
For such a prominent arboretum, I recall it wasn't well marked.
We spent much of the day in the conifer section also.
I have a couple fledgling conifer berms,
so it was nice to see mature examples of many of my comparatively tiny plants.
I'm not sure I'll live long enough for my guys to get anywhere close!
It was beastly hot the day we visited.
Thanks for sharing the pix.
Yes, even with GPS it was very difficult to get in. And we had an RV, so turning around after missing it was not simple. Better signage would be wonderful. I was also struck by how many of the conifers were crowding each other. It was comforting in a way--even the experts can miscalculate the size of a planting in 10 years!
