halloween when you were young

I rember halloween being so much fun when I was young it seemed like everyone took there kids out .and I dont ever recall having to check your candy because someone might tamper with it.. I rember a lady down the street every year made popcornn balls they were so good. alot of costumes were hand made I dont recall having a store bought one, but that was in the 60s so there weren't a whole lot of different customs around. Does any one have a halloween or fall party memory they want to share?

Just that is was so fun and pretty much safe in those days. You could stay out late and you knew if a house had a good or bad reputation. At one house we were given 10 cent candy bars! Well you know how big those candy bars were in the 60's! We always talked about toilet papering a house but never did! One year we got to hang around with the neighborhood heart throb. I think at one time or another we all had a crush on him! LOL Those were fun days!

I remember the neighborhood being full of kids in all kinds of mostly homemade costumes. What fun! There was man down the street who always dressed up in a Gorilla suit to pass out candy. Scared us kids so much!

One home always put a ghost on a wire that would swing down at you when you walked up to the porch & had scary music playing outside. One house had a box made to look like a big computer and it would 'spit' out the candy from a little door.

We were always told not to eat anything until we got it back and Mom/Dad went thru it all to make sure there were no razor blades or other unbelievably cruel things that we heard about in the news. Never found anything bad and we had some neighbors that we knew well that made popcorn balls and rice krispy treats.
