One of the local papers heard that a farmer in the area had some enormous sweet potatoes in his harvest this year. They sent a reporter and photographer to get the story for this weeks edition. They took pictures of the sweet potatoes next to a basketball. There was very little difference in the size. The reporter asked the farmer if he had any secret to growing them this large. He said he did. "You've gotta plant them in the ground." he said with a grin.
The picture and the story were in our paper this week. :>)
How to grow basketball sized sweet potatoes
WOW! Can you scan it and post it? What's your local paper? I'd love to see that! Wonder if they taste as good when they're that big. I guess it wouldn't be any different than a 3" tater and a 9" tater.
I am going to try to get my daughter to scan it and send it to my computer and then I will try to put it one here. (If I can figure out how!) :>)
I'd just like to be able to grow any size. My growing season is kinda short.
Well, I didn't do THAT good with sweetpotatoes but I remember posting a story (whoops, I mean episode) about when me and my grandfather planted taters down by the "Big Little River Creek" one yr when I was a boy...just can't seem to find it in the DG archives. If I do, I'll holler.
I love sweetpotatoes! Had 'em last nite. and the nite before! Been gumming 'em to death around here! (Coulda sworn some were running from me!)
Well, my daughter clipped the article and scanned it in, sent it to me email. I tried to put it in the photo section and it gave me an error msg. that it had to be a gif or jpg. According to the attachement info., it is a jpg, so I have no idea what I am doing wrong. :>(((
Anyone have any suggestions? (Yep, you'r right I have never done this before.)
I DID IT!!!!!!! And it only took me two hours to figure it out! :>) The clipping is on the photo section.
Sue
