found in Illinois woods. only about 1 inch in length. coloring is hard to make out in this pic, but it's got a tan "u"-shape around its body, black/tan banded legs.
is it a type of wolf spider perhaps?
thanks for any input!
CLOSED: What kind of spider is this? (black/tan bands, thick hair)
It looks a bit like one of the Jumping Spiders. Any chance we could find out where it's located? And, perhaps, a clearer picture?
It was found at a park in western Illinois. It was bunched up at first, sliding down from a single piece of web. Sorry, those are the only pictures I took. But I'll put the whole original up, helps show the size at least, relative to about an 8-inch wood post.

Fairly sure it's a Jumping Spider in the genus Phidippus. There is quite a bit of variation in these fascinating spiders.
thanks for the tip!! i agree, i looked at some pics of Phidippus audax and Phidippus borealis, and they're pretty close! thanks again
No problem. Glad we could help.
Welcome to Dave's, too!
