Detective work time. This is going to be hard.

My girlfriend and I love to camp by Lake Lanier here in Georgia. We decided to take a night hike. The night was pitch black, wind was very strong, and it was pouring down rain. As we came this bend we heard a sudden and loud noise. I stood there looking into the trees with my head lamp shining on full blast. The more and more I looked, the noise kept getting louder and louder. Finally after 15 seconds my girlfriend grabbed my arm and said she was scared. She literally pulled me back to camp.

To her the noise sounded like a Deeper Pitch old Creaky Door. At first I thought it sounded like trees rubbing together really hard. When the wind went dead thats when it kept going and got louder. To me it sounded like a taught rope swinging, like a hangman.

I did some research and found that the closest I could get to the noise was a single cicada buzzing on a youtube video. Sadly I cannot find that video again.

Anyways, shes freaked out about it and well, im really curious now.

Thank you.

Cicadas can sound like that but so do Common Grackles. Although, I don't think the birds are out at night.

Thank you, I will do a bit of research on the birds.
