Papilio polyxenes strictly is a New World species and would not occur in Syria.

Some reports refer to Papilio polyxenes as a pest on parsley in west Asia, this means it could be found in Syria, how can we know for sure?

Please compare Papilio machaon (http://www.treknature.com/gallery/photo182873.htm) with Papilio polyxenes (http://www.kidsbutterfly.org/faq/appearance/8)

I am unaware of reports of Papilio polyxenes from anywhere in Asia. If you can provide a reference, I would appreciate it very much.
