Fall is here...Show us some color

One of my favorites. Ginkgo biloba 'rocky'. Blushing an intense yellow.

I think everyone must be asleep out there!
Surely there's some fall color going on?
I took a stroll through my yard today w/ camera in tow.
First up is good old sassafras.

Bottlebrush buckeye.

Unfortunately, my best fall color for red maple (acer rubrum) is on the ground.
Leaves fell off early, maybe the heat/drought?

Yellowwood has a bright deep yellow.
Very pretty.

A little oak, just a couple feet tall.
Accidental backlighting by the setting sun helps, too!

Hornbeam is more subdued.

Stewartia is just getting started.

My oak leaf hydrangea leaves have a strange combination of disintegration highlighted by really pretty fall color.

Who else has some fall color pictures to show off?

Some of us are hard at work planting, potting up, and doing home improvement additions to the house...

But in the interest of being team players, here are some things looking stellar these days at the Valley.

Rhus copalllina in all its winged glory...

How 'bout a Cotinus obovatus with some yellow tints?

OK - still not impressed.

Nyssa sylvatica 'Firemaster' is pretty hot...

I don't think I've ever seen this one posted (though it really isn't a tree/shrub/conifer here) - Asparagus!

OK, back to the real plants.

Here's a rather uncommon resident of residential landscapes...

Zanthoxylum americanum - Prickly Ash.

On a roll now - can anyone ID this member of Vaccinium?

How about a combination red and golden?

No hints at IDing this famous Ilex verticillata - it is tops in its class.

This will be a series, with ID at the end.

I can say that I've never seen this level of fluorescence in this species (or any other) before this fall.

Right family, Res!

That's a Parrotia persica seedling, and I'm impressed with that color range. Usually see more orangey yellows with some red to burgundy undertones in Persian Parrotia around here. I'm wondering if a nutrient deficiency has brought this out...

A final survey of fall's last hurrah around here. Still some beauties!
First up, acer griseum x nikoense.

A tiny itea, 'Shirley's Compact'.
It's no more than a foot tall w/ congested foliage.

Acer palmatum Shishigashira.

Acer sieboldianum. Wonderful speckled fall color. The entire tree is speckled. Amazing!

Acer henryi. More subtle.

Liquidamber styracifolia Worplesden. Harlequin patterns of coloration on each leaf.

Hamamelis x intermedia Jelena

Japanese maple in midst of a conifer planting.

Finally, another japanese maple, a palmatum Koto Ito Komachi.
An upright-growing dissectum with extremely dissected leaves; nearly hair-like.
Remarkably vigorous. My tree is 8ft tall with dense foliage. Fall color is beautiful crimson.
