I found this guy (or gal?) right next to our front door-we live in Milwaukee, WI. It has a smaller/wheel shaped web and a body size around a dime. It was feasting on a former fuzzy bumble bee. When we got in closer to get a picture he quickly scampered off. He then came back about 2 minutes later, removed his bug from the web and is now sitting with his dinner in the bush. My boyfriend is terrified of spiders and wants him removed ASAP-I think he is awesome and rarely get such interesting visitors in the city (don't worry-I will protect him from the "non-spider folk"). Please help me identify this guy!
What kind of spidey is this?
An Orb Weaver in the Family Araneidae. This Family is highly variable. This one is completely harmless.
