I got my wish!

(Zone 7a)

All Summer, I have been lamenting the fact that I don't have an Orb Weaver spider in my yard. This morning I went out to check on things and found the remnants of an orb web. I went out again this evening to see if I could find the owner and there it was! My DH thinks I'm nuts.

I just love these. They're so interesting to watch. We found her daytime hiding place so we won't disturb her.

right behind black widows, they're my favourites.

i've been keeping and raising black widows since the mid-seventies.

i have often brought Araneus into my bedroom, put them in a window, where they'll build a new web almost every night,
most of them stayed put, without confinement.
i've kept many through a full season

Oh, how neat! I keep going outside to check on her.

with the season changing so fast for us (i'm next door in coloraudi),
you might consider keeping her inside for a while.

they are so beautiful to watch,
repairing, or fully rebuilding their web,
from the comfort of your favourite chair,
with a cup of tea

a cricket from the pet shop will keep them happy for weeks

Will she stay where I put her? DH thinks she'll run all over the house.

if she's not too freaked out to make her first orb, ... you get a bug in there

... and she'll think it's a good spot

when they wander, ... they're not going to crawl across any floors
they'll stay high on walls, corners, ... looking for a 'good spot' that yields food
very pragmatic

they're also harmless, regardless

my little friend is not visible this morning
i hope a bird didn't get her ;(

Yes, I love these garden buddies. I don't think my DH can appreciate them like we do. I'll just have to enjoy her outside.
