Birds eating plants

I love birds. I love plants. But the 2 don't seewm 2 go 2gether. I live along a Spring-fed waterway, where the geese & ducks can freely come & go,But they choose 2 stay. I have beautiful flowers as I live in a Certified Wildlife Habitat yard, but I don't know how 2 keep the birds from eating my flowers. Cayenne pepper helps but needs 2 be re-applied after rain. Gets quite expensive. Can anyone help me?
