I just received some mimosa tree seeds from a friend & would like to know how do I start the seeds, when, do they have to go through a winterization period, did I pick the pods to soon, just plain how to use my seeds?
Mimosa tree
I have never done mimosa seeds.
Dr. Deno's database has a note that the seeds are treated by soaking for twenty
minutes in water at 140º F. They got germination in two weeks with that method.
They also suggest that germination might occur if the seed coat had a hole
made in it.
Perhaps someone who has experience with these seeds will come along and give their ideas.
They reseed on their own to a great enough extent to be invasive in some areas, so while some soaking, etc might help I doubt if it's necessary.
I have no experience starting them, but once I had to look up and label some seeds.
I can't swear this is accurate, but here is what I found somewhere:
direct sow in fall
Persian Silk Tree / Pink Mimosa Tree
Albizia julibrissin / Mimosa arborea
30'-40' tall space them 10'-20' apart
Zones 6-10
sun to part shade
acid pH 4.6-5.0
