CLOSED: Who's good on moth IDs?

Fayette, IA(Zone 4b)

My husband found this beauty almost dead and it expired shortly after. I'm afraid I broke the antenna when I turned it over. First, the dorsal view.

And now the ventral. I didn't attempt to open the wings any farther. It is fairly large as moths go, about 1 1/2 inches high and slightly over 2" wide as pictured.

Well, I didn't get any responses, but with the help of Kaufman's insect guide I believe I have identified it as a White Underwing (Catocala relicta). I'd like to add a photo to the BugFiles, if anyone can confirm.

yes MartyJo, I agree with your identification.

We have a page in BugFiles for the White Underwing (Catocala relicta) here: http://davesgarden.com/guides/bf/go/1071/

There are no images on the page so far, so we would be very pleased if you would add both of you pictures,

Ken
