Hello! I almost walked right into this guy or gal's web this morning. Its abdomen is about 1/2" long. It actually has a fly caught under it. Yum. I live in Boston, MA and it's one of the biggest spiders I've seen around here.

An Orb Weaver in the Araneus genus. A very beneficial spider.

i just spied a big one on my building today, ... one of the largest i've seen,
abdomen, from a distance looks easily an honest inch in diameter, probably bigger
i'm going to photograph her
