'Travelers' are still being seen here daily. Needless to say, every time I'm 'buzzed' by them is every pleasant surprise for me. I'm mot keeping nectar outdoor no longer. Just trying to keep the late blooms in the garden for them. Unlike many experienced birders I don't know when is the cut off here as far as migration route.
Hummers are gone!
We just had two RTHU's visiting over the weekend (October 15/16) here in Cincinnati. They stayed around checking out the red cannas and zinnias and now I suppose they took off for points south on this bright sunny day.
I have read on the Yahoo Hummingbird message board that there have been an inordinate number of sightings in October up here in the north.
Interesting....due to global warming perhaps...?
My firespike is blooming,,, but boohoo, my hummer left for Florida about a week ago. Guess I will bring my feeders in and just leave one out for a straggler. Lovin' global warming here after the cold last year and the year before.
No hummers for me here for days. Firespikes? I've one with a reddish inflorescent showing. :((
My Firespike is now in the basement under the grow lights :((
EFGeorgia1, so that was your hummer I saw buzzing around my firespike today! ;--)
Yes, sunkissed,, probably my little hummer.. LOL
Well I'll take good care of it for you. ☺
Thanks, I will be following him down shortly. It is going to be 34 here tonight...brrrrrrrr. I hate cold weather!
I'm usually in the GA mountains this time of year...we had some other things going and cancelled our yearly trip. But next year nothing standing in my way. I'm missing our trip. 34 is BRRRRR. It got pretty cold when we were there last year, we stay until mid Nov...felt good to get back here to the warmer weather...it felt good at first but really sinks into our bones after awhile.
Haven't seen any hummers this week and all my firespikes are in full bloom. But then I've been gone a lot this week and not out in the yard during the hours they come along.
I'm not sure what this is on one of my firespike blooms...is it a seed starting?
I was planting some violas yesterday for spring and heard a hummingbird. I have a feeder close by where I was gardening. There was a Anna Hummingbird at the feeder. Then he sat on a lower branch of the flowering plum tree and watched me. I had several here all last winter. I still have flowers blooming but not for long. Stay warm. Sharon
